Growing In Stitches

Saturday, March 10, 2012. Christmas Round Up: Cat in the Hat Quilt. It's March, and I'm finally getting around to blogging the last of my Christmas sewing projects. Better late than never, I guess. In sticking with our very Seussy Christmas, I made a Cat in the Hat quilt for the Monkey. I found some Cat in the Hat panels fabric, similar to the Grinch panels fabric I used for Baby Brother's Grinch book. The Monkey likes pointing out the different Seuss characters on the back of the quilt. I grew up in an ...

Growing In Stitches: Tutorial: Felt Leprechaun Hat

http://growinginstitches.blogspot.com/2012/03/tutorial-felt-leprechaun-hat.html

Thursday, March 8, 2012. Tutorial: Felt Leprechaun Hat. I grew up in an Irish family, so we've always had fun celebrating St. Patrick's day. The Monkey has been looking forward to St. Patrick's day for a while, regularly asking me if it's here yet, and telling me that he's "celebrating being Irish." So I wanted to make him something fun to help him celebrate. This felt leprechaun hat was just right. In my case, The Monkey's head is 18.5". 185 = 3.14 x diameter. Diameter = 18.5/3.14 = 5.89". Strip 4" x (c...

Saturday, December 31, 2011. Christmas Round Up: Cat in the Hat Pajamas. The Monkey loves anything Dr. Seuss. Especially the Cat in the Hat. I found some great Cat in the Hat flannel when I visited one of my favorite Atlanta-based fabric shops. Last fall. I knew right away I had to get some to make pajamas for The Monkey. Growing In Stitches: July 2011

http://growinginstitches.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 17, 2011. Last year, when we found out that the Monkey was going to be a big brother, I wanted him to mark the occasion with a new shirt that was as special as he is. I scoured the internet and I just couldn't find what I was looking for. So I decided to make it. It was quite simple. With a fat quarter and some fusible webbing, I transformed a plain white shirt into an adorable "Big Brother" shirt! He loved his new shirt! Tuesday, July 12, 2011. 4 Stitch up the sides. Fold towel in half with...

Dunlap Station: The Decade Project*

http://dunlapstation.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-decade-project.html

There's always something on Dunlap Station. Friday, December 27, 2013. Ten years ago I did something crazy. I got my legs waxed for the first time! I wouldn't go through that kind of pain for just anybody. A few hours later, I married a man who was superior to the 'perfect' one I'd invented in my mind from pieces of books and movies. Who knew that short, blonde and funny was more suitable for me than tall, dark and handsome? God knew. [Don't worry, honey, you're way better than "handsome! While we are in...

Dunlap Station: One Week

http://dunlapstation.blogspot.com/2014/11/one-week.html

There's always something on Dunlap Station. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. We have one week left to inhabit our little home before movers come and load up our stuff. I'm really nostalgic. Instead of lamenting this move and all the good things we're leaving behind I'm reminded by scripture to "Rejoice always" and "give thanks in all circumstances" (1 Thess. 5:16-18). That a decade ago God guided our house-hunting search to this "perfect" fixer-upper. That God blessed us with amazing neighbors. Began sleepi...

Dunlap Station: Refreshment

http://dunlapstation.blogspot.com/2014/07/refreshment.html

There's always something on Dunlap Station. Tuesday, July 15, 2014. I asked myself that question one morning. I'd spent a sleepless night with my new 2-week-old baby and my toddler (who, despite being an excellent sleeper, woke from her big girl bed during the one stretch of time when the baby was. Quickly, I typed out a short list on my phone. This is the list:. Take a relaxing bath. Go for a walk or exercise. I told myself that if I could prioritize ONE of these things each day I'd feel refreshed.

There's always something on Dunlap Station. Thursday, July 3, 2014. Aaannd. I'm back. I took a blogging "maternity leave" of sorts from April - June. Now I feel compelled to write down some goals to help me get back on track. My idyllic vision of mothering 2 children. Attend Mommy and Me exercise class at the YMCA twice/week. Celebrate the 4th with friends. Celebrate my 33rd birthday! With Lydia (take advantage of memberships). Make eye doctor appointment and order new contacts. Stuff on utility shelf.

There's always something on Dunlap Station. Wednesday, May 21, 2014. May 9, 2014. Every child is unique. So is every pregnancy. I think, if my second-time pregnant self met my first-time pregnant self she’d want to punch her in the face. Seriously. I had an easy, pleasant first pregnancy and birth. I LOVED being pregnant. I wasn't uncomfortable. I was so excited. First-time pregnant me had a pretty swift, all-natural spontaneous labor and birth, too. I have to kick my baby out early? The place I thought ...
