O 人類漫長的文明發展過程中，為了適應外在環境所建造的住屋、城堡、橋樑、道路，乃至獲得心靈安慰所建的寺廟、教堂等建築物，經過一段時間之後，能逃過天災人禍而倖存下來的，便成為歷史的見證。 O 簡單地說，當時的人早已不存，但當時的建築物卻留下來，這便是古蹟。因此，古蹟有很多種可能性。例如：古蹟有很遠古的，數萬年前的台東長濱文化即是：有數千年的，如台北八里十三行文化;有三百多年前的安平古堡與淡水紅毛城：當然也有一百年前的台北北門。 O 人類的歷史是綿互不斷的，有古代史、中古史、近代史與現代史，因此各有互相匹配的古蹟。例如十九世紀開始有鐵路火車，因此劉銘傳在基隆興築的獅球嶺鐵路隧道，即是反映當時交通科技水準的古蹟。同樣的道理，距今只有五十多年的建築，只要它的數量少、具有某種文化藝術或科技水準的代表性，我們就可以指定它成為古蹟。 And sponsored by SmashingMagazine.
