My name is Ander Rockstad and I live to climb rocks. I am out there traveling, visiting, and exploring where ever there are rocks and great people and experiences. PSYCHED! Thursday, April 12, 2012. The end of states-side time for a while at least. Bishop in just another beautiful sunset. Psyched for the project to be finished. Just as psyched as ever to working on my birthday at the trade show, this one is a little forced. The die hards packing up at the end of a day of baltic conditions.

Paul Hersey Writes: November 2014

Tuesday, November 18, 2014. I first caught a glimpse of Percy Smith at dusk in the winter of 2004. Kynan Bazley and I had just topped out on nearby Ward, in the Hopkins Valley, after snaking up a dozen pitches of virgin ice on its south east face. Greeted by one of those glorious winter alpenglow sunsets that never fails to mesmerise, we were still driven by a need to lose considerable height before nightfall. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Wednesday, October 16, 2013. The Surface Of Rocks - article in Alpinist 44. His chest constricts against the vortex of wind. He struggles to focus. This isn't love. Driving out along the convoluted gravel road, he hadn't decided, or didn't know that he'd decided. But the sway of the grasses back and forth, the sweep of the thick clouds with the wind, the sound of the surf's last throes – the abyss that lies within each of us, sometimes so close to the surface. 8220; How high? 8220; How high is the stack?

Sunday, July 14, 2013. Born Again Bolting - A Discussion On Ethics (article in Climber). My wife Shelley and I recently headed up to my hometown of Whangarei, to visit my father and chase a few waves in the winterless north. While there, we decided on a climb at Ngahere Drive, a local crag of oversized limestone boulders that I helped develop many moons ago. It was like looking at vandalism. I tried to tell myself that all the shiny new metal didn't matter, but after a few moments of bouldering past them...

Monday, June 30, 2014. MSR Hubba Hubba NX Tent - gear review. The MSR Hubba Hubba NX (the NX stands for Next Generation) is marketed as offering a number of significant improvements over the previous model of Hubba Hubba. As someone familiar with the old version, and with its strengths and weaknesses, I was intrigued to see how MSR had tweaked the design. The NX also has several new features and design tweaks that make it more comfortable and more weather resistant – benefits that, together with th...
