Ginger Snort Review - Kathryn van Beek
http://www.kathrynvanbeek.co.nz/blog/ginger-snort-review
The glamorous life of the reviewer. I signed up to review this show before I got the cold - and before I realised just how full-on the work week was going to shape up to be. By the time Friday evening rolled around I was so tired I was afraid I was going to fall off the bar stool at Q theatre. So I had two coffees. Even as I was drinking them I knew it was a bad idea. But the show was only an hour long. I was sure my bladder could cope. You can read the Ginger Snort review on Theatreview. I'm currently w...

Heni Irihapeti's Blog. All posts by Irihapeti. I live on a 3-acre property with my husband, 1 cat, 11 hens and a wide range of birds and smaller critters (the latter, uninvited). We are trying to have as small an ecological footprint as we can, and have installed solar panels for our power needs, and collect our own rain water. We are self-sufficient for vegetables and fruit. My time is spent writing, gardening and day-dreaming. Bright Colours after Dull Days. August 13, 2016. August sun lights up. Versi...

Bright colours after dull days. May 22, 2016. Menter Farmstead, Big Springs, Nebraska. In the shady places where a little icy snow still lies, the earth is hard and frozen underfoot. Holy Pussycats, Batman! Best of the Fest! What a crazy day yesterday was! I had a fabulous time at Auckland Zinefest yesterday, sharing a stall with super-talented designer Kalee Jackson. And stocking up on new goodies by Sarah Laing. The day also featured workshops, delicious vegan food and chats with all sorts of interesting people. We headed out to the after party at the Wine Cellar because we wanted to keep the good vibes going. And I was shocked to win Best of the Fest! For a truly wonderful day.

http://www.kathrynvanbeek.co.nz/blog/why-do-a-self-funded-residency
Why do a self-funded residency? Why do a self-funded residency? Six reasons why a residency is more valuable than a stay at a holiday home. There are a number of self-funded residency programmes worldwide, but we don’t have many multi-disciplinary residency programmes here in New Zealand - yet. We do, however, have the New Zealand Pacific Studio. Why self-fund your residency - wouldn’t it be just as good to book a bach? Meeting artists in the local community. The Wairarapa is a hotbed of creativity, and ...

Good morning, Eketahuna! - Kathryn van Beek
http://www.kathrynvanbeek.co.nz/blog/good-morning-eketahuna
While reading a beautiful photo book about the Wairarapa (. Wairarapa: A Place Apart. Photos by Pete Nikolaison. Text by Michael Wall) from the NZ Pacific Studio. Library, I came across the following paragraph:. Forty two kilometres north of Masterton we reach Eketahuna which, for reasons which are not entirely clear, many New Zealanders consider to be a mythical place; a kind of Antipodean Brigadoon. Charmed by this description I turned to the internet for more information, where Kiwi Slang. My short fi...
