Mark Hunt's Weatherblog. About my blog…. Mark Hunt’s Weatherblog. Monthly Archives: May 2014. Well the fickle continental rain didn’t quite arrive on the days I forecast, but arrive it did! Closing off the week, we will see the last of that light rain pushing off the south-west of England and, behind it as we lose the cloud cover; the sun comes out pushing temperatures nicely into the high teens and potentially higher, so we finish the week with a nice day and hopefully a dry cut! Pale and Washed-out Turf.

Mark Hunt's Weatherblog. About my blog…. Mark Hunt’s Weatherblog. Whenever I hear the words heatwave, my thoughts immediately turn to Gravesend in Kent because when you have a forecast like this, it is often quoted as the hottest place in the country, so all the best to the lads and lasses in Kent that will bear the brunt of it I think. So how are we looking for the weekend, an extended heatwave or more in the way of rain? This means that the temperatures will reach a point on Wednesday when they will ne...

Mark Hunt's Weatherblog. About my blog…. Mark Hunt’s Weatherblog. What a weather week we had last week with a new record high temperature at Heathrow for July at 36.7°C, pipping the previous record recorded at Wisley of 36.5°C, recorded in 2006. I measured 35.5°C here in The Midlands and decided to test my stamina by going for a 4 mile lunchtime run at the hottest point of the day, I don’t think I’ll do that again. So what kind of a weather week do we have in store for us this week? Now that’s the ...

Mark Hunt's Weatherblog. About my blog…. Mark Hunt’s Weatherblog. Monthly Archives: January 2015. So how is the week shaping up? There is also a big chunk of snow that at this moment is projected to push down The North Sea and into Denmark, Scandinavia early next week and this is worth keeping an eye on forecast-wise. The pdf copy is available here. For downloading, this is fixed now and won’t be updated, but the interactive version will be updated and is linked to here. You can clearly see the pattern o...

Mark Hunt's Weatherblog. About my blog…. Mark Hunt’s Weatherblog. Monthly Archives: February 2015. Another weekend of two halves but for some yesterday the sun broke through the fog and pushed the temperature up to just a shade under double figures and once again you got the distinct feeling that spring is around the corner. The weekend looks like one of two distinct halves, Saturday being mild, breezy and dry but with strong westerly winds and rain moving in for Sunday across Ireland and the bulk of the...

Mark Hunt's Weatherblog. About my blog…. Mark Hunt’s Weatherblog. Monthly Archives: April 2015. Usually by now warm air has started to push up from the equator and move the jet stream further north, allowing temperatures to rise in Northern Europe, but not this year. As you can see below, the projected path of the jet stream for the 7th May is still low with a capital ‘L’ and that means cool conditions are the order of the day for the time-being I’m afraid. As intimated above although we have a pretty co...

That’s because we have a recalcitrant jet stream, currently still split (see image left) in two or even three segments. As you can see from the image, we have two bands in yellow/orange , one below and one above the U.K and Ireland, it should be one continuous band crossing the mid-part of the U.K. Total Y.T.D. Mark Hunt's Weatherblog. About my blog…. Mark Hunt’s Weatherblog. Monthly Archives: March 2014. The last post of March and for many it follows a lovely weeken. D, with some warm temperatures pushing into the twenties in the south-east of England. It’s early days yet, but I see the tabloids are already at it (thanks for the tip off Stewart! We’ll see…. Again I’d be interested in your observations linked into your GDD. Readings because that’s how they’re the most use. So I think a lot of you in the U.K...
