Healthy Policy: Crawford and The Law -- a match made in heaven

A journey through policy, progress, and being a patient by Kate Steadman. Laquo; La Grand Rounds. It gets stranger everyday ». May 02, 2006. Crawford and The Law - a match made in heaven. Financial holdings aren't Lester Crawford's only problem. Testified that Crawford excluded them from the process of deciding on Barr's application. That admission is extremely troubling as it illuminates the extent to which proper regulations for drug approval have broken down. May 02, 2006 at 12:03 PM. Url=http:/ uk...

A journey through policy, progress, and being a patient by Kate Steadman. May 05, 2006. Commenter Martin has started his own blog. And I want to be sure to link to it before I end my tenure here. He's got an interesting post. Up about a recent NEJM series debating the various conduits to improved drug safety. What's clear from his post, and the expert's writings he excerpts, is that there's no easy answer for reforming the FDA. May 05, 2006 in Pharmaceutical Industry. May 04, 2006. A journey through policy, progress, and being a patient by Kate Steadman. May 03, 2006. Good news and bad news: reprise. HPites, it's time for some good news and bad news again. How about the bad news first? Sadly, this is the last week that I will be posting to this blog (or any other blog). The good news is I have finally secured employment! I'll still be in touch via email, ksteadman at gmail dot com, and of course working and thinking about health policy. Just not in this kind of venue. May 02, 2006.

A journey through policy, progress, and being a patient by Kate Steadman. May 05, 2006. Goodbye, and, Health Insurance: A Primer. After my Uninsured primer earlier this week, I had a few requests to compile a profile on those with insurance. This is also my last day blogging, so I figured a round up of my favorite health policy issue is appropriate. The average annual cost for insurance in 2004 was $3,695 for individuals and $9,950 for families. Employer-sponsored premiums are growing at an immense rate:.

Thursday, September 28, 2006. The Trouble with Certainty. Discusses John Danforth's book tour where he blames the Christian Right for turning the Republicans into a sectarian party. The problem with many conservative Christians is that they claim that God's truth is knowable, that they know it, and that they are able to reduce it to legislative form," Danforth writes. "The popular question, 'What would Jesus do? God becomes secondary. It is all about them. That's idolatry. Posted by Hellmut at 18:29.

Thursday, April 27, 2006. Sex, Power, and Language. Reports about James Moran, a priest who was sexually abused when he was a young intern. I find it striking how difficult James Moran found it to speak about his experience. When he hinted at problems nobody followed up. Thus conversations that could have protected others and might have been therapeutic could not happen. When children know what's up, they will be in a better position to say 'No! Saturday, January 14, 2006. Faith, Reason, and Martin Luther King Day. Martin Luther King Day is an occassion for Christians to consider both the liberating and the nefarious effects of our faith. Martin Luther King's faith was an important asset in his struggle against racism. On the other hand, if religion had not justified and codified racism in the first place, we might have dislodged hatred earlier and more thoroughly. Tuesday, May 23, 2006. The New Times reports that America has caught up with the Dixie Chicks. The article refers to the Incident. That's when Chick Natalie Maines proclaimed her disdain for George Bush in London on the eve of the third Gulf War. The right wing forced country radio stations to boycott the Chicks. When their songs got no air time, the album sold "only" six million times. Chick Natalie Maines wanted to send a message that Americans have more in common with Europeans than it appeared at the...

Sunday, December 25, 2005. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! Happy holidays to everyone! Christmas celebrates a God who was born in a manger among animals. A God who was adored by shepherds and angels. When the wise men came, they attracted danger and the holy family had to seek refuge on foreign soil. If I encountered baby Jesus in the manger today, would I be concerned about the quality of his health care? What about Mary, the mother of God? Would I support Joseph's need for a living wage?

Sunday, July 16, 2006. Military Religious Freedom Foundation. Religious freedom may well be the greatest blessing of American heritage. The Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock to escape discrimination. William Penn took the lesson a step further and provided a refuge not only for his own but also for those who disagreed with him. So did the Catholics that founded Maryland, only to be subject to discrimination once Protestants outnumbered them. Yet that is what has been happening at the Air Force Academy.
