The Hillipines: Staging!

http://www.hillippines.blogspot.com/2008/07/staging.html

Thursday, July 3, 2008. My staging packet arrived in the mail yesterday. It consists of information on when and where to report (Los Angeles) plus yet more paperwork to fill out before actually getting on the flight to Manila (on Hawaiian Airlines no less). It's starting to feel very, very, very real. Its hard to believe we'll be meeting in only 40 days! July 3, 2008 at 4:09 PM. I am so proud of you big sis! I can't wait to come visit you.i'll bring a hammock :). Love ya lots,. July 5, 2008 at 10:58 AM.

The Hillipines: August 2008

http://www.hillippines.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 22, 2008. A lot has happened the last couple weeks, so I'll try to give a brief(ish) run-down of everything. I met the other 68 Peace Corps Philippines volunteers in LA a week and a half ago (already feels like a lifetime). We spent 2 days playing ice-breakers (almost wanted to quit right then and there) before finally getting on a plane to Manila. Here are some things I've learned so far:. 1) There is no one within 10 years of me age-wise in either direction. Anyway, we split up into 3 sm...

The Hillipines: June 2008

http://www.hillippines.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 30, 2008. So what language do they speak in the Philippines? I've been working my way through Rosetta Stone language lessons online (offered free via the Peace Corps! Magandang umago means "good morning" (add po to the end of it as a sign of respect), but I didn't learn that from Rosetta Stone. I had to look it up online myself. I'm sure the program knows what it's doing. Tuesday, June 24, 2008. And so it begins. And so it begins. Long time ago, my friends) and now I'm finally doing it.

Saturday, December 13, 2008. Merry Christmas and a broken bike handle. Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to everyone! This is the happy holiday season! Everyone is celebrating the birth of Jesus from the month of September to December! There are Christmas lights, caroling, nativity scenes, parties, food, dancing, and much more! Last week the teachers at my school had a Christmas party where we exchanged presents, performed dance routines by department, and had a lovely feast with traditional Filipino food!

Philippine Dream: October 2008

http://philippineshauna.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 7, 2008. So this past week has been wonderfully overwhelming and hectic! All the PC trainees in the Visayas region were sent for a few days to check out our permanent sites where we will be living for 2 years. I am assigned to Bago City. Let me tell you a little about my new home. It was insane how welcoming and hospitable everyone was; the entire community was there just to greet me! So now my high school. I will work at Ramon Torres National High School, which has 4,700 students! Ok ok...

Wednesday, October 14, 2009. It has been almost a year since my last blog so I thought I would bring you into my life a little bit. I visited the site of two other Peace Corps Volunteers. Last week because we. Were invited to facilitate a teacher training for about 200 teachers from the surrounding public and private secondary schools. So we made room. The more, the merrier- right? After one week of preparing and one full day of presenting we were all tired and ready for a day of relaxation. First, we mu...

Old Pueblo Ponderings: August 2008

http://cjc-oldpuebloponderings.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 27, 2008. There will be no posts for a while.the universe has other plans for me. Sunday, August 24, 2008. Here comes the sun. I've always been an early riser. It's hard for me to recall a time when I've ever consistently "slept in". Okay, maybe the summer I was ten, but my room that summer was under the eaves of an old camp, and I could spend hours watching the shadows of the leaves cavort on the ceiling. Saturday, August 23, 2008. Good for the soul, good for the soles. So I'm sitting ...

Saturday, November 15, 2008. Welcome to Bago City. Ideas are flowing through my head, I feel like I’m going to explode. This is only my first week here at my permanent site in Bago City and already I’m thrown into the center of all the excitement in the English department. The two main projects I am involved with are co-training the impromptu and declamation speakers for their competition next week, and also planning the upcoming high school musical. Both of the kids are very talented! I need to finish u...
