Analyzing Trinitite: A (Radioactive) Piece of Nuclear History | Hunter Scott

https://www.hscott.net/analyzing-trinitite-a-radioactive-piece-of-nuclear-history

No one was completely sure what would happen when Gadget went off. For a while, there was worry that the chain reaction would be unstoppable and react with the entire atmosphere. Before the test, Enrico Fermi took bets from some of the physicists and high ranking military personnel on whether the bomb would destroy the whole state of New Mexico, or the entire planet. The math seemed to show fairly conclusively. This famous picture was taken 16 milliseconds after the Trinity bomb exploded. Note that perce...

Level – A small, frequency agile radio module | Hunter Scott

https://www.hscott.net/level

In the summer of 2012, I started a company with some other Georgia Tech students called Level RF. We went through Y Combinator and lots of really cool and interesting things happened, which you should ask me about sometime. The company ended up pivoting into Soylent. But this page is to release all the hardware and software I developed while I worked there. Although for now it’s still vaporware. Here’s a schematic walkthrough of version 4:. It has a USRP B100, an Intel NUC, a power supply, and a power amp.

Impact – Prevent brain damage in atheletes | Hunter Scott

Note: This project is my entry into the 2015 Hackaday prize and is also documented at Hackaday.io. Http:/ www.momsteam.com/problem-underreporting-concussions-helmet-sensors-solution-to-problem. I still need to build the programming/data download jig. This will probably be a little 3D printed, hinged thing with pogo pins on it so the device can be clamped down in it. Schematics and such are available on Github. Level – A small, frequency agile radio module. May 14, 2015. On my Atmel Programmer. Leave a Re...

Machinist’s Cube | Hunter Scott

https://www.hscott.net/machinists-cube

The Machinist’s Cube is an old exercise that machinists would do to learn how to mill. The story I’ve always heard is that students would be given a completed cube and asked to replicate it with no further instructions. I did mine on a Chevelier mill with some aluminum scrap. Stock scrap I started with. Other side, cut in half from a quick jog on the waterjet. I used a horizontal band saw to remove as much material as I could so it was more square to save a bunch of passes on the mill. 1 Comment so far.

Twitter Contest Winning as a Service | Hunter Scott

https://www.hscott.net/twitter-contest-winning-as-a-service

This is the story of how I wrote a Twitter bot to automatically enter contests and ended up winning on average 4 contests per day, every day, for about 9 months straight. If you’ve ever used Twitter, you’ve probably seen a tweet that looks something like this:. Maybe you’ve actually retweeted it, maybe not, but everyone wants to know: does anyone ever win those contests? From http:/ xkcd.com/576/. Here’s a picture of The Haul:. Most contests informed the winners by direct message, and a lot of people hav...
