Register to save your cart before it expires. This website contains a small selection of my digital photographs of UK birds and other wildlife and macro photography, all taken since 2003. Some galleries are not yet complete but archival images and any new photos will be added to the galleries as they are processed. My film based photos might get scanned and added one day, .perhaps. I would be pleased to hear from anyone regarding my photographs or anything else related to wildlife and photography.

Making Hay ... ~ Burgundy Blog: The Duke of Burgundy Blog
http://hamearislucina.blogspot.com/2013/06/making-hay.html
Wednesday, June 05, 2013. The spell of warm, sunny weather we have enjoyed through late May and early June is fantastic news for some of our rarer spring species. Duke of Burgundy, Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Wood White will all have had the opportunity to spend long periods out egg laying. As long as we don't see a summer drought, I'm optimistic that the numbers of these and other species will bounce back strongly next spring. His Grace at Rodborough Common, Cotswolds. Farewell To The Duke.

Thursday, June 27, 2013. All followers of His Grace will have enjoyed watching his attacks on Dingy and Grizzled Skippers on many occasions. However, it is far less often that we are afforded the privilege of watching him beat up the Large Skipper; in fact I only recall ever seeing this once before. Monday, June 10, 2013. Farewell To The Duke. Sunday, June 09, 2013. Saturday, June 08, 2013. In all I don't think I went more than 100m without encountering a Duke which is credit to the park authority who ha...

Tagged eggs warning ~ Ash Brownies: The Brown Hairstreak Blog
http://betulae.blogspot.com/2015/03/tagged-eggs-warning.html
Saturday, March 14, 2015. For the second time we have had tagged eggs removed from one of our Worc nature reserves presumably by a butterfly breeder/collector. The incident happened at Trench Wood reserve where eggs had been marked ironically to ensure that they were not removed by accident as part of routine ride maintenance. Over 20 eggs were taken, virtually every single egg laid at Trench Wood this winter! Brown Hairstreak Survey Methods Workshop. Richard Hadfield had found a rare cluste. Annual Tran...

April 2014 ~ Burgundy Blog: The Duke of Burgundy Blog

Sussex In Action Too. Friday, April 18, 2014. However, sitting waiting for me was a perfect male. His lack of agility and mint appearance suggested a very recent emergence. He was sitting within a metre of where the two or three (at best) males used to lek at Heyshott when the species was teetering on the brink of local extinction, before operations began to save the Duke in 2007. On the best days 100 now fly here. And that's how it should be with butterflies. Friday, April 18, 2014. Today's male was beh...

The Duke of Burgundy ( UK BAP Priority Species. There is one brood each year, with the adults emerging at the end of April in southern sites, peaking in the middle of May. A partial second brood may appear in some years, but this is the exception, rather than the rule, and only occurs in certain sites in the south of England. Adults only occasionally nectar, usually in warmer weather, with Wood Spurge, Buttercup, Hawthorn and Bugle being favourites. Both sexes roost in tall scrub or trees. The pupa is us...
