The Bright Libertarian: Negating your rights - Canadian Health Insurance.
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2013/09/negating-your-rights-canadian-health.html
Thursday, September 19, 2013. Negating your rights - Canadian Health Insurance. Unfortunately, when the Canadian health care system came into existence in the 1960's, those involved in creating the legislation considered health care as a "right," a positive right. I agree that access. Nothing is free, and its almost axiomatic that whenever a government gets involved in mitigating an expense, you can be certain that expense will increase, beyond all good intentions. The Bright Libertarian: I'm back
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2014/08/im-back.html
Friday, August 1, 2014. I have not posted to this blog for seven months, not good. But the fact is I have been actively posting to Facebook (on several sites) and twitter (on two accounts). I'll admit it has been difficult to keep up with things since I became a political leader. Note: Only a member of this blog may post a comment. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). On Facebook The Bright Libertarian is. A blend of politics, religion and science. What is a Libertarian? Who are The Brights? Canada is fre...

The Bright Libertarian: Should ER doctors turn in suspected drunk drivers?
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2014/08/should-er-doctors-turn-in-suspected_31.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. Should ER doctors turn in suspected drunk drivers? Last weekend the Toronto Sun ran a front page story. And two full pages inside, on an ER doctor's experience and opinion. The story was about a woman that had been taken to the ER and examined by that doctor. The patient, a woman in her 40s, had driven her car into the back of another automobile, causing significant damage to her vehicle and injuring the two occupants of the car she struck. In this case the woman. The doctor poin...

The Bright Libertarian: July 2013
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 1, 2013. Today, of course is Canada's 146th birthday, and this week our American cousins will be celebrating their birthday too. I've been reading some of the postings on social media by my libertarian "friends," both Canadian and American. Many of the wishes are genuine expressions of hope that everyone has/is having, a "Happy Canada Day.". I'll be the first person to tell you that there is something wrong with our "state," our country and our various governments as they exist now. Yes, we ...

The Bright Libertarian: Remembering the wrong message
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2013/11/remembering-wrong-message.html
Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Remembering the wrong message. Governments wage war on people. It may be disputed, but I think it was George Orwell who said. History is written by the winners.". I mention that because a Facebook friend posted a conversation with his daughter today in which she asserted that Hitler could have taken over the whole world. My friend replied, if that happened we would be taught in school that Hitler was a good guy. I'm sure all of the so-called hero's of war will tell you that th...

The Bright Libertarian: April 2013
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 13, 2013. The exponential rise and sharp drop in the value of the "virtual" currency Bitcoin has made it into the mainstream media this past week. Even the CBC, official voice of the statist media in Canada, had a reasonably (for CBC) unbiased story here. The value of a Bitcoin has been extremely volatile of late, possibly because of the European monetary crisis and the little wrinkle that Cyprus created. The rise of the Bitcoin: At what point should we take this seriously? Whatever objec...

The Bright Libertarian: August 2013
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 29, 2013. Here is an example of how unnecessary government interventions create unintended consequences. According to this newspaper report. Atheism is a creed that requires protections much the same as other religions do. So, atheism is equated to religion. In the actual paper copy, on the front page (see photo), the National Post. Makes light of this. I guess to pander to their social conservative patrons. According to Dictionary.com. Creed" is defined as:. 8221; and of course was, as ...

The Bright Libertarian: Marijuana black market thrives
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2014/08/marijuana-black-market-thrives.html
Friday, August 22, 2014. Marijuana black market thrives. Colorado's marijuana loosening law is almost 8 months old. I say 'loosening,' because the law has many constraints. Its always amazing to me that legislators, by and large, are economic ignoramuses. Maybe that's not fair, laws are hammered together compromises. The archetype statist Otto von Bismarck, probably said it best "Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made.". Is a more in depth story. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Bright Libertarian: Eating healthy in 2014 - gluten free?
http://thebrightlibertarian.blogspot.com/2013/12/eating-healthy-in-2014-gluten-free.html
Monday, December 30, 2013. Eating healthy in 2014 - gluten free? Correlation is not cause, but note the rise in obesity with low fats. This is the time of year we promise to change our bad habits. Canadians think they eat poorly when compared to the official government food guide. No one would ever suspect that the food guide may be erroneous. But what if it were? I've written about this before, most recently here. Articles like this one. From a reputable magazine, makes the decades long government sanct...
