JasonMLee.com Bits and Bytes about life in Church IT. Posts tagged with: Remote Access. Jan 24, 2014. Goodbye Old Friend Logmein…. So for many years I have found Logmein.com to be an extremely reliable solution for remote access and it was free! I’m not going to join the legions of haters but simply am saying goodbye to a great free tool and make some notes on new tools I have found to fill the void. Computer not just you. PC not a desired result. A quick Log Off in the app fixes that and you can acc...

IT Muse-ings: May 2008

http://itmuseings.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 27, 2008. I signed up for the Beta of a program/system called Evernote (www.evernote .com). Evernote is basically a virtual clipboard. Here’s how their site explains it:. 8220;Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at anytime, from anywhere.”. I’m loving it so far. Links to this post. I’m currently working on Spam filtering… again. Well It turns out t...

IT Muse-ings: Can you hear me now?

http://itmuseings.blogspot.com/2008/08/can-you-hear-me-now.html

Friday, August 15, 2008. Can you hear me now? It’s that time again. Another contract is up; and it’s time to start digging for “the best deal.”. I switched from Verizon to TelePacific for phone services a few years back. We got better rates, and just as (or more? Important, much better service. Even the monthly invoicing was better – all in one envelope. Happy days! Is there something out there that will blow traditional services out of the water? So the hunt begins. IT Muse-ings: September 2008

http://itmuseings.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 28, 2008. Three cheers for the Helpdesk! I’ll begin by saying that our helpdesk system rocks! At this moment, we have only 16 total requests in queue, and most of those requests are project related. Our system has allowed us to stop being fire fighters all of the time; and become a proactive IT team. 8221; “Excuse me; where is the restroom? 8221; “Do you know where I can find Pastor Bob? 8221; “Can you tell me when Mom’s study starts? IT Muse-ings: Everything Internet

http://itmuseings.blogspot.com/2008/06/everything-internet.html

Thursday, June 19, 2008. I've got a new computer sitting on my desk. So far; there's minimal software installed on it. My old computer had roughly 60 or so apps installed! I found myself needing to make a flowchart, but hadn't re-installed Visio. I did a search and found an online flowchart program (free beta from flowchart.com). It's working for my needs. Then a thought occurred to me. How much of my job can I do by using apps on the Internet? Better yet - How much can I do online. for FREE?

IT Muse-ings: How would you like that?

http://itmuseings.blogspot.com/2008/08/how-would-you-like-that.html

Friday, August 22, 2008. How would you like that? I was visiting Saddleback. Church a few years back; and Eric Busby said something that stuck with me. I'm sure he didn't come up with it, and I don't know who did, but it's fantastic:. Good - Fast - Cheap. Good Fast = Expensive. Good Cheap = Slow. Fast Cheap = Inferior. I'm sure you've seen this before; but it has saved my skin more than once, so it's worth repeating. August 22, 2008 at 1:23 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Blast From the Past.

IT Muse-ings: October 2008

http://itmuseings.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 17, 2008. The Price of Free. In a previous post called “ Everything Internet. 8221; I asked the question; “How much of my job can I do online… for FREE? There’s a problem with that question, and so the answer, as it turns out, is – not much. As the IT Director of a Church, I have to keep 70 staff members and oodles of volunteers working. A more appropriate question would have been; how much can I help them do online… for FREE? My conclusion, after doing some research, is… not much. Diamon...

Mr Kline's Classroom? Corrupting (I mean teaching) the future leaders of America one day at a time. Watching the videos and reading the articles about the technology that is making its way into education, I am beginning to realize just how much I don’t know and how much I need to learn and adapt if I am going to continue to be effective in the classroom. The videos this week were somewhat intimidating, as I am very unfamiliar with the technology being discussed in the videos. Feel comfortable with and am...
