The Journey of a Lifetime. The first day if our sabbatical did not come lightly to your mind. The morning sun was seeping through the curtains brightly and my mind was racing. All of the last minute details were falling trough like snow on an avalanche. The excitement was very much present too. My immense joy of flying was great. The travel agent called United/Continental Airlines, which we would be flighing and said that the check in would have to move my seat back to the row with the rest of us. You ar...

The Journey of a Lifetime. For my daily posts, because I’m so far behind due to Internet misconnection and loss of time, I will just simply give the outline of each event. Let me also explain that Meli is our tour guide. She showed us everything during our time in Izmir. She is a font of information! She would tell us everything in great detail. We really learned quite a bit from her in just five minutes! It was delicious. We also had pide bread and cheese. What a meal! But they were all amazing. All...

The Journey of a Lifetime. The rest of the flight was fairly simple. We began descending with about 45 minutes until landing. When we came onto final approach we saw how high up on the plane we were. As we came down we seemed to hover over the landing spot but really we had touched down. The chief flight attendant came onto the intercom and said, “Welcome to Munich”. Everyone applauded loudly. My heart exploded in joy, I was seeing what I’d been hoping to see for a long time! After the flight we continue...

The Journey of a Lifetime. Newer posts →. June 9, 2012. One of the churches that we went to see was called Hagia Sophia. Hagia Sophia is ancient. It was built in the 3rd Century A.D. At the highest point it is 180 feet tall. One of the guides said that the Statue of Liberty could do jumping jacks on the inside! It is an amazing structure. When we got in we saw the book of minutes inscribed upon the wall. The antechamber was 45 feet high. This seemed extraordinarily high at first. June 9, 2012. In Istanbu...

A Special Journey | The Journey of a Lifetime
https://randfamilyblog.wordpress.com/2012/07/28/a-special-journey
The Journey of a Lifetime. July 28, 2012. Iona was a very special place. One of the reasons that it is so special is because it is separated from the rest of the world. You have to take three ferries to get there and a one hour drive on two islands in between the ferries. This part of being on the island makes it a special journey and a different kind of place. As the day progressed it began to rain and not in little quantity. The wind picked up, the waves on the sea began to puff and swirl. The ...The r...

Journalist Monica Sarkar on India, human rights and her occasional two cents. Tag Archives: Monica Sarkar. India’s law on marital rape: Do we get the problem? An Indian bride arrives at her marital home. Photo credit: Shounak Ray on Flickr. My most recent story for CNN on why marital rape is legal in India. Has to be the most debated piece I’ve written so far. While many men and women have supported it, sadly, a significant backlash has mainly come from Indian men. Continue reading →.
