Journeys of a Cellist: November 2012

http://journeysofacellist.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Journeys of a Cellist. The Journeys and observations of a very non-traditional cellist. Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Was watching this beautiful video earlier and practicing this piece (which I taught myself from the video a while ago):. Anyway, between that and playing Prayer all the time, I was thinking that my upper register on the A string really sucks . so I thought I'd do some practicing, which meant a combination of scales and arpeggios (which I found infinitely more challenging and useful) .

Journeys of a Cellist. The Journeys and observations of a very non-traditional cellist. Monday, May 5, 2014. It's been a while, but I've gotten back in the swing of things with writing and performing and all that sort of stuff . Been working on some electronic music here: https:/ cellomike.bandcamp.com/album/electronic-explorations-luna. And I'm gonna be performing at Steampunk World's Fair. So I'm thinking I might record another lightning speed album leading up to that. Links to this post. I Broke My Bow.

Journeys of a Cellist. The Journeys and observations of a very non-traditional cellist. Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The last 6 months and the future of my music. The last 6 months or so have been pretty Weird! There's been a lot of just trying to hold on for the sake of holding on. I moved to Philly in the fall and things ended up not really working out there, and I quit the bands and projects I was in, with the intent of putting music on the backburner for a bit while I got my life together. PS - I'll...

Journeys of a Cellist: The Etude Project

http://journeysofacellist.blogspot.com/2009/11/etude-project.html

Journeys of a Cellist. The Journeys and observations of a very non-traditional cellist. Monday, November 23, 2009. Http:/ celloetudes.tumblr.com/. I *really wish* that more advanced cellists/musicians would do things like this (post about their learning/practice process). In general, I wish that more college or post-college players would blog - there is so much to learn - especially with all the different teachers out there . this seems to be a really under-represented group in the blogging community.

Painting Air: May 2010

http://katpaintsair.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Thoughts on musical theatre, creating art, and occasionally comic books. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Music Directors Need Tonys, Too. I totally agree that there should be a Tony for Best Ensemble. But the Tony Award that needs to exist above all other Tony Awards is one for Music Director (as the crazily talented Georgia Stitt. Pointed out on Twitter). How does this not exist? I mean, seriously. Seriously? Links to this post. Friday, May 21, 2010. Tearing Up The Slips of Paper: EVERYDAY RAPTURE. I wanted so...

Painting Air: October 2009

http://katpaintsair.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Thoughts on musical theatre, creating art, and occasionally comic books. Thursday, October 29, 2009. A Little Night Landsbury. I will never say anything against Angela Landsbury. One of my clearest memories of my grandmother, who died when I was in fifth grade, is of us watching Murder, She Wrote. Together. I wasn't even aware of Landsbury's stage work until college (my parents are non-theatregoing scientists, what do you want from me) and I'm lukewarm about her performance in Sweeney Todd. Speaking of C...

Random Thoughts: My Job

http://mm4842.blogspot.com/2009/10/my-job.html

Thursday, October 15, 2009. Today was a cold, rainy and miserable day in New York City! I absolutely love the cold weather, but I definitely. For the icy wind and freezing rain. It feels nice to get back to my room and wrap myself in a blanket. My roommate. And I are going to make hot cocoa soon. On the other hand, being half a teacher has some definite. Random Thoughts: October 2009

Thursday, October 29, 2009. Technology: a Love/Hate Relationship. As I have mentioned previously, I am currently enrolled in Technological Trends for the Music Educator, a course offered at New York University. This blog was intended to allow us to explore our personal relationship with technology and how it relates to our goals in music and education. Upon analyzing my relationship with technology, I have come to the conclusion that I was not really meant to be a "techie.". Thursday, October 15, 2009.

Ongoing Composition for Cello and Pen: December 2010

http://eveningprose.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Ongoing Composition for Cello and Pen. Friday, December 17, 2010. Have you seen how full the store is with cakes and candies and cookies? M said. "All for Christmas. But they're not just all in one aisle, they're everywhere.". I know, " I said. "They're all over. Leaping out and thwarting your well-intentioned way to the check-out. The aisles of cake closing in on you and the shopping cart- like the Clashing Rocks menacing Jason and the Argonauts.". Are you all right? Oh, ok. Maybe it's me.". The problem...

Ongoing Composition for Cello and Pen. Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Cello in the trees. This, deep down, was what I was seeking, by coming here, by beginning to play the cello in the first place - but how would such wishes bear up to reality? Would they collapse or remain meagerly unrealized through my limited abilities to actually make music? By Bruckner, a motet which evokes the soaring stone resonance of a church. Then the second, one of the Polovetsian Dances from Borodin's Prince Igor. Rhythm was obv...

http://eveningprose.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Ongoing Composition for Cello and Pen. Monday, January 24, 2011. In the front rows of the symphony hall you can almost feel as if you are sitting underneath the piano, like a child amid the land of legs and hanging table cloths. The sound seems to come from above and all around you, not losing, in this proximity, a sense of the material—the elegantly reposing tabletop of strings and hammers—that issues its acoustic energy into the air. Beethoven Piano Concerto, No, 3. Largo. The stern, tender pull of the...

Journeys of a Geordie

Journeys of a Geordie. Periodic blog updates on my Erasmus third year abroad in France and Spain. What has interested me, what I've done, where I've been and what I've seen. Wednesday, 23 May 2012. This weekend I welcomed my sister and brother-in-law to Tarragona. For a few days. Although they had already visited me once before during the first semester of my Year Abroad when I was living in Aix-en-Provence. I couldn't wait to see them again. Before they arrived we had already planned a trip to Cadaqués.
