Work properly, I couldn't spend too much time figuring out what the deal was. 0x7) It turns out that when you echo a BEL to the windows console, it waits for the system beep/bell noise to play completely before resuming the output stream. This means that each BEL in the stream is a 0.5-1s wait. Add up a few hundred/thousand of those, and you have a problem. It seems that you can, in fact, be a little TOO verbose in your logging.
