Journey to Tanzania

Friday, September 01, 2006. So, I leave for Canada tomorrow evening. I am in awe that I have been here for a whole month, even though it's seemed like I've been here forever. It's weird at the homebase right now. There are only 4 volunteers left and almost all of the staff are gone too. CCS setup a trip for all of the staff to go on a Safari this weekend. They were so excited as it is their first staff trip. I wish I could post some final photos to this blog, but the computer I am on will not allow me to...

Journey to Tanzania: One more week!

http://www.karaintanzania.blogspot.com/2006/08/one-more-week.html

Saturday, August 26, 2006. Today we are going into the nearby town of Moshi. We're going to go for lunch somewhere and do some souvenier shopping. Tomorrow I am going to accompany Mama Ester to her church. Apparently it is a very unique experience and unlike any of the churches that we have at home. I'll keep you posted on that! Well, we have to go, but I'll log back on soon and write about this weekends adventures. Posted by Kara @ 3:40 AM. View my complete profile.

Journey to Tanzania: Out and About!

http://www.karaintanzania.blogspot.com/2006/08/out-and-about.html

Thursday, August 24, 2006. Yesterday after lunch, a few of us went to the Arumeru Hospital for a tour. One of my fellow CCS volunteers, Grace is currently working there for her placement. It is incredible how different it is! The site is comprised of about 10 small buildings, each building being a different ward of the hospital. The staff consists of 60% nurses and only 1 MD (Tanzania has a very sever shortage of doctors! Posted by Kara @ 5:33 AM. View my complete profile.

Journey to Tanzania: Market Day!

http://www.karaintanzania.blogspot.com/2006/08/market-day.html

Thursday, August 24, 2006. Yesterday was Market Day in Tengeru. Right outside the window here I work at my placement was chaos! Many vendors bring loads of second hand clothing, shoes and housewares to sell in the dirt streets. This is a picture of the EARD-CI office where I work. It's hard to see in the picture, but it's the white and black sign behind the tree. Here's a close up of the sign for the office:. To see in Tanzania! Posted by Kara @ 8:01 AM. You are doing a great job! Tyler, Andy and Melissa.

Journey to Tanzania: Volunteer Placement

http://www.karaintanzania.blogspot.com/2006/08/volunteer-placement.html

Sunday, August 20, 2006. Hello friends and family! Well, here is one of my catch up blogs. Well, last week I continued to help with calculations as well as giving a couple of english lessons to the other women. But, I emailed the director of EARD-CI, a woman named Edith, and asked her if I could setup a meeting with her to discuss what they would like me to accomplish in my time there. Posted by Kara @ 10:11 AM. Happy to hear from you! Can't wait to see your pictures. Hope you're having a wonderful time&...

Sunday, December 10, 2006. Youth AIDS Conference November 30th, 2006. Thanks for staying with me. Saturday, September 23, 2006. Will you remember me? Will you remember me? Oh yes, yes I will remember you". Exerpt from a song that my girls sang on my last day of placement.). I have been in contact with Emmanuel from WAMATA. Unfortunately, the government has cut power in Arusha yet again. Now everyday during daylight, power is shut off, and to access any form of electricity, a generator must be used. Unfortunately most of the citizens have no access to this type of expensive accommodation. You don't kn...

Friday, August 11, 2006. To be blind is bad, but worse is to have eyes and not see. Although all power is out in Tengeru, the Internet cafe has a generator, so I have access! I just finished typing a blog, but unfortunately, the computer shut down when I was about to post. so here I go again. As I am writing I have many many children looking over my shoulder, amazed at my typing speed. Thanks again everyone for your e-mails. Jackie - the coffee here puts Timmy's to shame:). Saturday, August 26, 2006. I think I've found my "miracle". I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all. La. As my time winds down here in Tengeru, I had hoped to use this morning to visit one of the projects initiated by WAMATA called the Orphan Sponsorship Program. Every Sat. between 40-60 young orphans (all sponsored by WAMATA), meet to play games and discuss HIV/AIDS prevention. I am so thankful for this experience. That story is heart-wrenchi...

Thursday, August 24, 2006. A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer; it sings because it has a song. Greetings From Tengeru,. Just a quick e-mail today. Things here are wonderful. I washed my clothes last night in a bucket. what an interesting process that was! With every passing day, my love for Arusha and its people grows stronger and stronger. Annie, the more you write, the more I can see you staying there! You should come teach my class on the art of telling a good story because your descriptions are so vivid. And I love, love, love all the pictures! Ps the ultrasound was good.
