RoboFemme: House hunting
http://robofemme.blogspot.com/2009/05/house-hunting.html
A woman. A technical scientist. A graduate student. Observations shaped by some combination of the three. If I choose to buy a home. Weighing all the positives and negatives of purchasing a home, I've decided that I'm seriously interested in going for it. And then, when all that was over, I went home and took a nap. It was exhausting! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Candid Engineer in Academia. Dr Jekyll and Mrs. Hyde. Thesis - with Children.

RoboFemme: August 2009
http://robofemme.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
A woman. A technical scientist. A graduate student. Observations shaped by some combination of the three. That didn't last long. Looking over my blog, it took only five months of writing for me to burn out in a blaze of scientific glory. Or what passes for glory in the world of a newbie grad student, at least. A day like some other very talented bloggers. Hopefully, this change in perspective will reduce the blogging burden and spark some excitement again. I'm spending this summer at home in my parents' ...

RoboFemme: February 2009
http://robofemme.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
A woman. A technical scientist. A graduate student. Observations shaped by some combination of the three. I had a phone call with one prospective PhD advisor this morning. At the end of this week, the total number of such calls will be three. That number seems. There are still seven PhD programs that have not responded. I keep checking my email and logging on to application status sites in the vain hope that one of them will contact me. That's another big drain on mental energy, because I've got ...I'd l...

RoboFemme: Daddy's Angry
http://robofemme.blogspot.com/2010/07/daddy-angry.html
A woman. A technical scientist. A graduate student. Observations shaped by some combination of the three. You know the feeling when Daddy (or Mommy, but Daddy is appropriate here for the breadwinning, aloof connotations) gets angry and all the kids know to stay out of his way? RoboFemme: January 2009
http://robofemme.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
A woman. A technical scientist. A graduate student. Observations shaped by some combination of the three. So, I wonder, why am I working so hard for this one class? The semester just started and work hasn't yet overwhelmed me, so I have been trying very hard to have some kind of social life lately, to maintain a work-life balance. Despite this, I've found myself sacrificing social time in very odd ways. I suppose my current social schedule is how I can balance my time best, but I do wonder about the loss...

Ladies in the Laboratory. Science isn't just for Dead White Guys Anymore! History of Feminist Activism in Science, Math and Healthcare. Asymp; Leave a comment. Found here: http:/ www.psmag.com/news/a-new-view-of-why-women-shun-science-careers-19392/. A number of women scientists had grown disaffected and had become radical feminist, but these women had not left the profession. They remained self-described scientists whose passion was now political rather than scientific (Gornick 130). Another form of act...

RoboFemme: April 2010
http://robofemme.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
A woman. A technical scientist. A graduate student. Observations shaped by some combination of the three. I've neglected this blog for about eight months now, but I had a realization today that inspired me to go online to chronicle it. And just plain feeling down. Today, as I was waiting for the elevator after class, it hit me: Right now, I'm being asked to do things I'm not good at (programming, in particular) and that's difficult for me, but that's not what grad school is about.
