The Norwegian constitutional bicentenary on May 17. At Mellageret Pub, the final destination of the parade, everyone in town gathered for hot-dogs and ice cream. Åsne, the May 17. Committee leader, held an inspired and informative speech of the day. An international crowd of N-Å inhabitants, visiting scientists and other guests also seemed to enjoy the extra-super-good dinner provided by our excellent kitchen in the Dining hall, later in the evening. The history of Ny-Ålesund is interesting and dramatic. Below we present a summary of the history of Ny-Ålesund and Kings Bay AS:. During the 1930s a fishery station was established in Ny-Ålesund to serve the hundreds of vessels fishing in the waters surrounding the archipelago. Later the idea of starting a hotel was proposed, and Nordpolhotellet opened its doors to guests for the first time in 1939. Neither of these two activities was a financial success. Tre år i Ny-Ålesund. Ei forteljing frå den nordligste nøgne ø. Posted by Åsmund S. Asymp; 3 kommentarar. Det vart diverre ikkje fullt tre år, 27. mai reiser eg på slutt. Eg veit ikkje om det er eit lokalt uttrykk eller om det er kjent i heile landet, men det betyr å flytta ned til fastlandet. Jobben min er lyst ut, søknadsfrista er 5. mai. I sommar byttar eg jobb til Kartverkets kontrollsenter for posisjonstenester. Eg kjem til å sakna Ny-Ålesund, og eg håpar det ein gong vert tid til å stikka innom att.
