Tuesday, 4 May 2010. Apple design is brilliant isn't it? What does this mean then, Apple? Nothing. That's what it means. There are 2 pieces of information on this screen. 1) It's ok to disconnect now. 2) It is not ok to disconnect now. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. arcadeperfect: August 2010
http://arcadeperfect.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 9 August 2010. Who is Alan Wake? Am I Alan Wake? There's a particular scene in Remedy's Alan Wake. In a cut-scene (the cut-scene. The game returns me to controlling Alan who's now determined to go and meet Rose. Fine. Except I know that this is a trap. Alan doesn't. As cinematic as the cut-scene and the reaction in me was (and Alan Wake. Often feels very cinematic) there's confusion here; I know something the player character doesn't, but I am the player, am I not? I still have to finish Alan Wake.

Tuesday, 20 September 2011. The Zavvi Online 3DS story. When the 3DS Price drop was announced, and with it the ambassador package, I got thinking: If I can get one of these cheap before the final register date, then I can get the free ambassador games too. A couple of days later, I was alerted to a 3DS deal on Zavvi's ebay retail outlet by a workmate. £150. Seemed reasonable at the time (in retrospect, yeah, maybe a bit steep). I bought it. Ok, so first thing is that we need to launch an investigation".

arcadeperfect: Justifying Games to the world.
http://arcadeperfect.blogspot.com/2011/06/justifying-games-to-world.html
Tuesday, 7 June 2011. Justifying Games to the world. I loved Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Loved it. According to Naomi Alderman's guardian article. Ahead of the this year's BAFTAs, she loved it too. In fact, the headline tells us that it's the "best game ever". Is it? Well, not every other game. Everything works. Everything controls exactly how you want it to all the time, it never has to second-guess what a player expects to happen; there's a clean, symbiotic relationship between what you're think...

arcadeperfect: April 2010
http://arcadeperfect.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 14 April 2010. If you read about game design on the internet, if you read opinions written by designers about the skills required to do the job, you've come across the belief that designers should be able to code. That's a very different game design job to the one I had a few years ago, but it's absolutely still game design. It's still hard work, it's not easier than scripting. I thought i'd stick it up. arcadeperfect: November 2010
http://arcadeperfect.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Monday, 22 November 2010. Picking Holes in Joyride. Funny thing of the week is apparently this video, where a man shows that Kinect's "you are the controller" mantra is a little overstated. Yeah OK, "haha" and everything, but it isn’t actually at all surprising that there’s auto-steer in a casual driving game, not least a Kinect driving game. Thing) and people liked that game. Flawless minority report control? There's a line, of course, and perhaps this is on the wrong side of it, but what I think is muc...

Friday, 31 August 2012. I've been slack with this. I didn't intend to be. I've got just as much to say about what I and we do as ever (always have) but actually getting round to it has been something I haven't been good enough at. So, this blog's laid dormant for 11 months. Not any more. I hope. Forgetting audio was kind of part of the joke. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
