Extracting Earwigs | No1word

All who wonder are not lost. April 23, 2012. I remember the first time I heard the term earwig. It sounded to me like that horrible pincher-worm thing they put in the guy’s ear in that one Star Trek movie. Gross. Earwigs are something you can’t get out of your head, usually a song. I have a friend who used to love to do this. She would come up and purposefully plant an earwig in my brain by humming it while I was doing something mindless usually while we were walking to class. They say things like, See!

What’s the reason all header bidding implementations are client side, can’t the same be achieved server side? So instead of a waterfall do an auction by getting pre bids from all the demand partners? What would be the down side to that? This question was asked on Quora. Below is my answer. Ad tech is an endless cyc...

Archive for Working On It. July 27, 2016. Floors In RTB: Are hard and soft reserve prices known to the DSP? I assumed that before bidding, DSPs could not be sure whether an SSP applies floor price rules to an auction. Now, I saw some remarks in the academic literature implying that buyers know about the existence or even the exact quantity of floor prices. In practice, do SSPs communicate their floors? This question was asked on quora. Below is my answer. Or second price auction. For more on this topic: ...

Tag Archive for Social Media. December 3, 2015. Gun debate – do we draw a new line? In light of the California, Oregon, Colorado and other killings this year, as well as the upcoming presidential election, the gun issue is top of mind for me and many others. I have to admit – I am on the fence about it. And I read social media posts from both sides. I’ve got friends posting. As strong 2nd amendment supporters, and other friends posting for more gun control. A bit of soap box. I’ve been trying to da...

All who wonder are not lost. March 11, 2012. Back together again, when things to not go as planned it is time to go back to the beginning and triage what went wrong, etc, etc. Being a chef after being a surgeon seemed like a reasonable transmogification. I also love to pick one or two spices and try to create a meal based on that one flavor–what will blend with it, what will contrast, what will complement? What textures or temperatures can I tweak to bring it out? I’ve recently started following a ...

All who wonder are not lost. A Room of My Own. March 5, 2013. Which leads me to think about predicting the future and particularly at this stage in my life to consider what kinds of things I am bringing about by my words and actions previous to this point in time. If two are one, the relationship becomes predictable each is omniscient about the other person and there is no solitude. I originally intended to post this in February: fell asleep and forgot that I hadn’t posted it. Forgive me.). Enter your co...

All who wonder are not lost. Collaboration, not competition. February 27, 2012. This morning began with an innocuous-enough message through Facebook. “Hi Leslie. Wow, I didn’t know you graduated from [acupuncture school] so quickly and got through the boards and passed all the tests to be an acupuncturist/Chinese herbalist. What’s your secret? I didn’t know I was supposed to be competing with acupuncturists for patients or for any other reason. Frankly, the thought of it breaks my heart. Click to share o...
