Saturday, October 15, 2016. We were staying in Kentucky on Olivia's actual birthday, so we decided to make a short drive to southern Ohio (state #20) to visit Kings Island. Brian and I had visited this amusement park prior to having kids, but we were amazed by how much it has changed. The park was sold a few years back, and the new owners have added many new, quality coasters. We spent the whole day at the park and rode every notable thrill ride- including The Beast. Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Christmas with the Sanders. After lunch we opened gifts. We all received so many wonderful things. I "went rogue" on a couple of gifts this year, but they were all well received. One of the "rogue" gifts was a bicycle for Brian. He didn't ask for this, but he likes to ride the bike around the neighborhood with the kids so now he will be riding in style and comfort. We spent the whole day at the house eating, chatting, and playing basketball. It was a great day.

Thursday, December 29, 2016. Day Trip to Jekyll. After leaving the Sea Turtle Center, we drove around the historic district and had lunch in the grand dining room at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. The kids were insistent that we let them go down to the beach. So, this was our last stop. I knew what was going to happen, and sure enough one of the kids (Owen) came back soaked. Sunday, August 28, 2016. The final race that I completed in August was the Heels and Wheels Duathlon. I have done the triathlon for the past three years, but I decided to go back to the Du this year because I'm a terrible swimmer and frankly I'm scared of catching a brain-eating amoeba in the lake. There were only two in my division, so I got the second place trophy by default. My time was 1.45.15. Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Third and Fourth Graders. Sunday, August 7, 2016. Jekyll on a Bike.

Saturday, September 24, 2016. One of the kids' favorite school days is the day of the grandparents' lunch at school. Since Olivia's and Owen's designated lunches were not on the same day of the week, their grandparents had to make a special effort to be present on two different days. Sunday, December 11, 2016. Owen's WINGS field trip this year was a train trip on the SAM short-line railroad from Cordele to Plains, Ga. Plains is a small town whose claim-to-fame is that it is the home of President Jimmy Carter. Owen was chaperoned by his Papa, and these two had a great time. Tuesday, December 20, 2016. We recently traveled to Jacksonville with some friends of ours to see the Florida Ballet's production of The Nutcracker. We enjoyed the show. This was our first experience with seeing a ballet, and it was a successful one. I don't think that we could have fit another thing into our day, and we were exhausted when we got back to the house.
