July 29, 2015. The day dawned cold wet and windy, we were just an owls hoot from abandoning the birding and gate crashing the geezer’s party, but decided to carry on. This wasn’t on our original agenda, but it was a bit of a dead loss in the wood with the conditions. 3 green sandpipers fed. 4 oystercatchers probed, the juves are now almost the size of the adults and are beginning to feed for themselves. 2 little ringed plovers pecked. August 3, 2015. One of the little egrets at Marston on Sunday evening showed yellow on the legs, mostly on the back of the legs, right up to the knees. I havn’t noticed this before so took a few record shots. After a bit of study I reckon it is an immature bird. The very small, single plume on the back of the neck is a feature of juveniles. July 20, 2015. Wader numbers are beginning to build up nicely in the wash. I went in the hope of finding a few of the scarcer ones of which there were one or two. I finished with twenty species of wader. At Freiston shore a curlew sandpiper and a wood sandpiper graced the reservoir, the wood sand later moved to a wet ditch. A few whimbrels were on the saltmarsh. A drive round to Frampton produced another wood sandpiper and half a dozen spotted redshanks amongst the many other waders. Sketch of the day.

August 3, 2015. The tide was quite a goodun, the saltmarsh and reclaim area was entirely covered. Lots of waders were pushed up. 6 curlew sandpipers were on the lagoon. A little stint was on the reservoir. Whimbrels perched on posts, with others flying south, lots on the saltmarsh 50 seen. 2 on the reservoir. Plenty of curlews, too. A couple of thousand oystercatchers preened and rested on the lagoon. Lots of dunlin, knot, turnstones and redshanks also on the lagoon. A few barwits and blackwits.
