A Step Back in Time. Henry W. Longfellow. In Search of Evangeline by Carl A. Brasseaux. Visit Longfellow Evangeline State Historic Site and bring your school group into Louisiana’s past. Each year thousands of school children walk through guided tours of Olivier House and the Acadian Farmstead. During the tour they learn about the lives of the Acadians and the Creoles that came to Acadiana. Q: Are there any fees? A: All activities and tours are free to any preregistered school group including home schools.

Children learned about bike safty at the St. Martinville Library, then made thier way to Longfellow Evangeline SHS to enjoy the beautiful day. The ride ended at Magnolia Park in St. Martinville. Farragut’s fleet came up the Mississippi River in late April 1862 and captured New Orleans. The Confederates fled the city but left the state militia units, both white and black, behind because they had no authority over the state troops.
