The French Property Experience. What is the Vendée and where is it? The Vendee is the southern most department of the Pays de la Loire region of France and is right on the cusp of where north France meets south. It’s about 400 miles south of Calais, in the west of France and about an hour’s drive south of the Loire Valley. The Vendée itself divides into 3 distinct and very different areas: the Bocage, the Marais Poitevin and the Atlantic coast and each area has a rich heritage and a vibrant culture.
