The milk has dried.the ink has not. Saturday, April 6, 2013. For Pauline and Kelley's Blessing). Beauty lies in the belly-. Children change us from the inside, flesh to flesh,. Then enter the world and change us on the outside,. Streak our hair and deepen our faces,. And continue to transform us beyond the surface,. The most inward of spaces. Where lovers could never touch,. Remodeling our entire hearts,. Down to the nails. Sewn into them, our seeds of sorrow and surrender,. Of navigation and delight,.

Beyond the Milk: July 2012
http://beyondthemilk.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
The milk has dried.the ink has not. Saturday, July 28, 2012. As per the fender-bender custom, I walked around each car to see how much damage had occurred; my front drivers side had some scrapes but no broken lights. Theirs was in slightly worse shape, although it was difficult to tell what the already battered van looked like before the accident. The man nodded to his wife and spoke. "Get the card." She hesitated. "Go," he said more firmly. "The card.". Other traffic accident, where a woman hit me in th...

http://beyondthemilk.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
The milk has dried.the ink has not. Friday, September 5, 2014. I had a "Scene" mom makeover. For my daughter's tenth birthday, she wanted to give me a makeover. A "scene" makeover, to look like her big sister, who introduced our family to the scene/emo look. Do you know what that is? For you visual folks, I'll show you:. Now, here is what I look like:. But I am one of those mom's that really likes to make my kids happy on their birthdays (possibly to make up for being such a shit to them the rest of the ...

Beyond the Milk: April 2012
http://beyondthemilk.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
The milk has dried.the ink has not. Sunday, April 1, 2012. Little clouds cushion my steps. This weekend, I met someone I've been eager to meet ever since I discovered her local existence. Someone who showed up as a nudging, little beacon at the exact time I stepped forward toward my own uncharted territory. A mentor of sorts. A tangible source of inspiration in a world overflowing with creative types, this was one that hit close to home.more so that I expected. Yeah, but so what? But I have a talent....

Literary Lou: Pushing Joyce out of the nest

Sunday, February 17, 2013. Pushing Joyce out of the nest. I couldn't make it though the whole novel, A Portrait of the Artist of a Young Man. As well). Like, maybe some of those layers are by accident. You know how studying literature can be- we read soooo much into every word, and then the author themselves will say, "actually, I wasn't being quite that intentional about that.but yes, sure, that makes sense! There is a arrogance about all that. I am willing to stretch, that is why I am here: to polish o...

ellie's madre: June 2010
http://elliesmadre.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 09, 2010. Boys will be girls and girls will be boys. When I was little, I had long "pretty" hair that curled at the ends. I remember being told what a pretty little girl I was. My grandmother took me to a beauty salon to get my haircut one summer. I want to say it was 1st or 2nd grade. I don't remember why she took me, maybe I was tired of long hair? What am I really trying to protect her from? By pausing, am I telling her that short hair isn't pretty? Links to this post. Live with intent...

http://elliesmadre.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2009. Here I am at 22 weeks 1 day. I went to the thrift store this day looking for some newborn clothes. The checker asked if I had a little one at home too. I said my belly and said, "I have a little one still cooking right here." I thought for sure I was clearly showing! But I guess one has to be careful when assuming someone is pregnant, right? Links to this post. Monday, May 25, 2009. Yay for new patterns! These are the patterns for the skirts and the dress:. Links to this post. She w...
