Matt Skilton: School Culture and Student Survey

http://mattskilton.blogspot.com/2010/08/student-survey.html

Friday, August 27, 2010. School Culture and Student Survey. When writing such a report it is important to also consider the views of the students! To do this staff surveyed their students by having them reflect and feedback thoughts on 3 questions. 1 What do you like about Muritai School? 2 What do Muritai teachers do to help you be the best that you can be? 3 What could be different to make Muritai School an even better place? Implementation of the survey was kept very simple. Junior teachers scribe...

Monday, August 2, 2010. Analyizing School Wide Data. Having now gained a little experience working with national standards data I am still not really sure of what the benefits will be for improving student learning? I'd be very interested in hearing from other schools who have been able to achieve this. Labels: School wide analysis. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Welcome to The GATE Way! Bird's Eye View: Natural Standards v Budget announcements

http://birdseyeblog.blogspot.com/2012/05/natural-standards-v-budget.html

Andrew Bird's blog about education and leadership. Thursday, May 24, 2012. Natural Standards v Budget announcements. We know that our children are all different. That is one of the great joys of being part of the school environment. We know that children grow at different rates and enjoy different things. They are not the same and they are not widgets. Mandarins and oranges while similar, are different. Posted by Andrew Bird. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.

Bird's Eye View: Parents donate $250 million annually to state schools

http://birdseyeblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/parents-donate-250-million-annually-to.html

Andrew Bird's blog about education and leadership. Monday, February 27, 2012. Parents donate $250 million annually to state schools. I found this article long overdue. It was on STUFF in the weekend and really presents more questions than provides answers. It also goes hand in hand with my previous post about. It doesn't really fall within the Education Act. In reality though these questions fall back onto the Board of Trustees to choose between 3 very expensive categories which fall outside the oper...

Bird's Eye View: Public funding of private schools

http://birdseyeblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/public-funding-of-private-schools.html

Andrew Bird's blog about education and leadership. Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Public funding of private schools. As a state school principal who sits at the knife edge of decision-making around just the basics of what we can or can't have for the children of our community I find this handout to Collegiate unacceptable, particularly in the context of my last post on special needs funding. The discussions clarifies many myths around the private and state education divide. Posted by Andrew Bird.

Bird's Eye View: School Days....

http://birdseyeblog.blogspot.com/2014/02/school-days.html

Andrew Bird's blog about education and leadership. Wednesday, February 26, 2014. I really like the pace of Muritai School at the moment. A few years ago we were getting tied in knots trying to get so much done through the school day. We thought that the more we did, the more the children would be educated. Click here to read the blog. Bird's Eye View: Special Needs funding in the media

http://birdseyeblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/special-needs-funding-in-media.html

Andrew Bird's blog about education and leadership. Thursday, March 15, 2012. Special Needs funding in the media. I really appreciated this well written comment on special needs education funding from Paul Drummond, president of the NZ Principals' Federation. Paul has given approval for to share his article. T cover what is required for high needs children to access the full curriculum. Decreasing support assumes that because the child is a year older they no longer need it! The challenge for us is to fin...

Bird's Eye View: The Brain in Action

http://birdseyeblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/i-am-really-enjoying-current-work.html

Andrew Bird's blog about education and leadership. Wednesday, June 13, 2012. The Brain in Action. I am really enjoying learning about the current work around neuroscience. There is some stunning new research work about the brain, in particular around the notion of plasticity of the brain - the ability of the brain to regrow or change. A useful read around this is Norman Doidge's book called "The Brain that changes itself.". Posted by Andrew Bird. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.

December 07, 2011. Kool-Aid vs. Lemonade. What separates an employee from a founder? Is it the amount of hours one works in a week or is it how much a person cares about their work/business? My answer would be both. There’s no doubt about it that a lot of people work a ton of hours and they may even enjoy their work, but how many people truly care? Was the preferred beverage and e.
