How I built a sun tracker for my solar panels
http://www.mdpub.com/suntracker/index.html
How I built a motorized sun tracker for my solar panels. One of my more complex projects. This is my home-made solar panel sun tracker. It is based on a 1960s vintage TV antenna rotator, driven by 21st century microcontroller technology. It was pretty easy to build. This web site shows how I did it. Here is some time-lapse video of the home-made solar panel sun tracker in operation. In the video it is set up on my remote Arizona property, and is doing a good job of keeping my solar panels pointed at ...

railnerd: Building the 3-way turnout
http://railnerd.blogspot.com/2015/02/building-3-way-turnout.html
Ramblings about model railroad technology. February 7, 2015. Building the 3-way turnout. A productive modeler once told me: "Try to work on your railroad every day, even if it is only for a few minutes.". Taking that to heart, I decided to embark on the something I had been putting off for a few months: building the 3-way switch for the China Basin ferry dock. I started with a set of paper FastTracks templates ( http:/ www.handlaidtrack.com/Fast-Tracks-Printable-Track-Templates-s/11.htm. Bay Area PCR/SIG...

September 27, 2014. Got a chance to add a few more layers of weathering, touched up some of the metallic details, and took a couple of shots before packing it in for the night. I'm really happy with the way this is looking— next step will be detailing and adding the pilot house. September 15, 2014. The final...

railnerd: More painting progress
http://railnerd.blogspot.com/2015/08/more-painting.html
Ramblings about model railroad technology. August 2, 2015. Was away from home for a bit, then came back to a very busy work week. Taking some "time off" from a project is often a good thing— it makes you appreciate hobby time even more. Today, I had a chance to test all those painting experiments from a few weeks ago on the apron:. I'm pretty happy so far, but have a LOT more to paint. Bay Area PCR/SIGs Meet Jan. 27-29. railnerd: Weekend Update
http://railnerd.blogspot.com/2015/06/weekend-update.html
Ramblings about model railroad technology. June 29, 2015. Had some time over the weekend to continue working on the ferry dock. With all the turnouts built, it was now time to focus on the "easy" track. I've become quite fond of the FastTracks "plain old track" jig for making straight track— so it was time to try using it to make the straight section of the pier. I started by making a simple section, then adding my longer PCB ties to the newly constructed rigid track:. Robert's Vasona Branch Blog.
