The cottage can sleep up to eight people with 2 twin bedrooms that can be rearranged as doubles and a bunk bed room upstairs and a sofa bed downstairs. There is a well equipped kitchen including fridge-freezer, oven, microwave, washing machine and drying area with tumble dryer, extractor fan and drying racks. The bathroom has a separate shower and bath. The prices quoted below are for the whole cottage not per person. Single night during the week. Single night at weekends. Weekend (Friday to Sunday).

The Afan Valley has seen human occupation for thousands of years. Evidence of this can be seen in a number of standing stones and cairns high on the valley sides. Blaengwynfi was built between 1892-93 following the building of the Swansea Bay Railway allowing coal to be transported down the valley to Port Talbot and Aberavon. These houses were built for workers of the companies who owned the railway or sunk coal pits in the district.

Walking around the Afan Valley. The Cottage is located at the top of the Afan Valley. There are many trails recommended by the Forestry Commission from the easy walks along valley floors to more demanding trails shared with mountain bikers running over the mountain tops. Forestry Commission recommended walks. Neath and Port Talbot council top ten recommended walks. Then click to zoom in for a 3D map of the whole area. Even though you are up in the mountains you are only a few miles from the sea. The best beach in the area is the three mile long Newton beach. And dunes near Porthcawl. It stretches all the way around to Ogmore-by-Sea and is always relatively empty. It has the added advantage of being dog friendly. The beach is also used for horse-riding with jet ski and kayaking lesson conducted just offshore. Right behind Afan Valley House is a modern pool with up-to-date facilities. Cymmer pool website.
