Just another WordPress.com site. I bought some beets from my friend, Cale, at the the farmer’s market and had some extra cabbage that I needed to use and was inspired to try my hand at borscht. So it was in the winter in the tropical country climate of Malawi that I first experienced this soup 🙂. It’s so pretty isn’t it? Not the most traditional borscht since I didn’t use beef…but delicious all the same. Topped with a little butterfat from snowville creamery which is unreasonably tasty.

Just another WordPress.com site. It’s kind of crazy how everything makes sense…and sorts itself out better than I ever could if I tried…. Whereas during the winter…I wanted a fire going in the wood stove, a hot steady fire that was good to cook on, but more importantly, good to heat with. (also – you shouldn’t burn pine in a wood stove because of the creosote buildup, etc…much better to use it outside and save the seasoned hardwoods for winter). Just some thoughts 🙂. Just another WordPress.com site. Chicken of the woods! A few weeks ago I was taking some kids for a hike in the woods…sounds a little creepy…but it’s my job! Which is totally awesome and is going super well by the way). Anyhow…we were kind of spread out just looking around and I hear this kid shout, “hey there’s a weird looking mushroom over here…it’s bright orange.”. To which I respond by running over and saying “chicken of the woods! Chicken of the woods! It was pretty sizeable. Such a cool lookin guy.
