Feeding the Soil: June 2015
http://www.feedingthesoil.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 22, 2015. I try not to spend a fortune on toys that the boys are going to grow out of quickly. That's why I love the idea of a Maker Box! Here's how I did it:. Biggest plastic container I could find (our is 35 gallons). Add inexpensive packing tape. Throw in a pair of scissors. Instead of recycling our trash, throw it in the Maker Box! This includes things like toilet paper rolls, popsicle sticks, milk jugs, etc.). Posted by Sara E. Cotner. Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Labels: In the Kitchen.

Feeding the Soil: July 2015
http://www.feedingthesoil.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2015. When I get extremely overwhelmed, my exposure to current events is limited to Facebook. I don't have time for much else. When I'm really, really overwhelmed, I don't even have time for Facebook. So when I got invited to a vigil for Sandra Bland, I didn't even know what it was about. The next day during professional development, two of our staff members led a session on culturally responsive education, and they showed the footage of her arrest. Is a powerful read. Sandra, from the ...

Feeding the Soil: Collecting and Developing Ideas in Notebooks
http://www.feedingthesoil.com/2010/06/collecting-and-developing-ideas-in.html
Monday, June 7, 2010. Collecting and Developing Ideas in Notebooks. I just bought a new notebook. The idea of a Writer's Notebook comes from the writing workshop approach to teaching writing. The gurus of this approach work over at The Reading and Writing Project. I've always had a journal. In 7th grade, I remember writing things like, "Do I want to be pretty or do I want to be cute? When I grew up and started teaching 6th grade reading and writing, I learned about the concept of a Writer's Notebook.

Thursday, August 25, 2011. Feeding the Soil: Teaching Children to Save Money
http://www.feedingthesoil.com/2013/12/teaching-children-to-save-money.html
Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Teaching Children to Save Money. Henry has been really interested in money lately. He really, really wants quarters for candy machines around town. We choose not to give him quarters on the spot and instead tell him that he can remember to bring quarters from his piggy bank (he solves this problem by turning the knobs anyway- it works more often than you think it would! To spend on small, quick things (candy, cheap toys, etc.). I'm not sure how Henry will actually get money...

Feeding the Soil: Home Tour
http://www.feedingthesoil.com/2011/06/home-tour.html
Monday, June 13, 2011. I've been wanting to do a virtual tour of our house for a while now (perhaps to help me feel like a bona fide blogger? However, I never seemed to muster the motivation to do it, probably because I don't feel like our house is finished in terms of decor. But then I got a request in the comments section of this post. After Matt and I organized and cleaned our house for Emily's visit, I asked my professional photographer friend. I know they did it over at Young House Love. I am sooo c...

Feeding the Soil: Around Here Lately

Wednesday, July 8, 2015. This photo from our vacation in Tahoe is totally misleading! Yes, I had a wonderful time in Tahoe with our in-laws, but my summer has not been all smiles and sunshine. My summer has been a lot of put-my-head-down-and-work. I feel like I want to make serious progress on my to-do list so that I head into the school year more relaxed and better able to institute a balanced routine. This is the life! Join us for the First Annual Reflection and Rejuvenation Retreat. Sara E. Cotner.
