Memoirs from the Belly: Behind the Belly

Memoirs from the Belly. Where I chronicle my memoirs as a single Mom to a toddler son. Behind the Belly you will find little old me: Mom, girlfriend, daughter, sister, auntie, confidante, writer, dog-lover, watcher of soaps and crime dramas, and educator. Of all the roles I have had the privilege of portraying, being a Mommy has been the most transformational, my most rewarding. In the years leading up to me becoming a Mom, my life was consumed with thoughts that I may never experience Motherhood. After ...

Memoirs from the Belly. Where I chronicle my memoirs as a single Mom to a toddler son. Friday, December 4, 2015. Day 3: Christmas Tree Lot and King of the North Pole. This morning, my son turned around our Christmas Activity card to discover a trip to the Christmas Tree Lot. We waited until it was dark because it is best under their Christmas lights. Bundled up and hot cocoa in hand, my son and I, and sweet Sammy Sue, took a walk through the forest. Until we came upon Santa Claus. And a herd of cows?

Musings from a Literacy Coach. April 21, 2015. April 21, 2015. I have not had a lot of joy in my life lately. I seem to have lost my writing mojo, there are tensions at home, problems at work, sad and dreary weather forecasts, and full schedules. I feel like I’m in a funk, and my life seems… joyless. I often receive smirks and smiles from passing mommies in the store as they witness Katie’s happiness at finding a pair of shoes in her size! Or locating the cookies we were looking for! To have a joyful spi...

This boat I’m in…. March 16, 2015. Bible Study Reading – John 4-6:24. One of the band members of my favorite Christian band, Casting Crowns, just had surgery to remove a cancerous kidney. He and his wife post reguraly to FaceBook for believers to pray. My sister, a youth leader in Michigan, just lost a student, only fourteen years old, to cancer, too. They held a candlelight vigil for him a few days after his death so those who loved him could mourn and pray. To walk on water? Not calm placid water, but ...

Raising a Literate Human. Join me on my journey to raise my daughter to read the word and read the world. June 8, 2015. On the Last Day of Preschool. On the last day of preschool. I forgot to take your picture. But it’s okay. Since you swiped my phone. And took 31 selfies. When I went upstairs. To brush my teeth. On the last day of preschool. I drove myself to Starbucks. Ordered an iced white mocha. And read a professional teaching book. For over two hours. On the last day of preschool. I ate my lunch.

November 25, 2014. November 25, 2014. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8. All my life I have been what I call “soul sensitive.” When I read Frank Peretti’s. It wasn’t working this time. I didn’t know if it was my faith struggling or the enemy fighting harder or both. Through death and grief and rebirth into hope. And if I am accepting of His voice, I can also accede the existence of that other voice, its power and...

Memoirs from the past. Saturday, 5 April 2008. Summer 2007, four Lebanese friends in their late twenties/ early thirties - a married couple, a boy and a girl (I) - went for a four-day trip as the first step to discover their own country. This trip focused on Northern Lebanese villages, but through it, we sensed the beauty and worth of the country as a whole. The night was also special, with a dark sky, clear moon and stars, and a nice fresh breeze besides our chats and laughs. Posted by ruchi goyal kaura.
