Mis Días en Ixtepec. A chronicle of my days researching in Ixtepec, Oaxaca. October 9, 2012. It is not uncommon that “coyotes” or “polleros” come to the Albergue. It is hard for us to know who they are without lengthy observation, interrogation, etc. For a fee, sometimes small sometimes large, coyotes or polleros guide migrants through the perils of traveling by train in Mexico. Though their business is technically illegal, I have mixed feelings on it. October 8, 2012. A very political mass, indeed.

So many of the men and women that arrived yesterday morning had walked for days, some for weeks, to cross the Guatemala-Mexico border. As a result, many had worn through their shoes, had foot fungus, blisters, etc. Here, they are about to begin treating their weary feet. Shoe donations to the Albergue would be greatly appreciated!
