Mrs. Kapp's Corner

Thursday, September 10, 2015. The CHES library makerspace is a unique place that gives students the opportunity to design their own learning experiences. I generally offer 5 to 7 "maker stations" on any given day. Depending on the central focus, stations may change from grade level to grade level. I have discovered that students have stories they want to tell and making in the library is a path to those stories. I want to share some of those stories with you. Small moments like these happen everyday....

Mrs. Kapp's Corner: Connecting the Dots across the Hills!

http://mrskappscorner.blogspot.com/2014/09/connecting-dots-across-hills.html

Monday, September 15, 2014. Connecting the Dots across the Hills! Monday, we Skyped, created bookmarks, played with augmented reality, and of course enjoyed reading The Do. T by Peter H. Reynolds. My first graders joyfully sang along to The Dot Song. As they worked on their bookmarks. I was touched when one of my second graders who borrowed The Dot. Both schools that we met with virtually had "Hill" in the name. So I guess you could say that we connected the dots across the hills. Subscribe to: Post Comm...

Thursday, July 30, 2015. Last week, librarians in Hamilton County gathered for our second annual Librarian's Institute planned by the library leadership team in partnership with the Chattanooga Public Library. Thinking about starting your own Library MakerSpace? I love Symbaloo as a way to curate resources. http://mrskappscorner.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 15, 2013. Last week, I read The Dot. After our discussion, I supplied a variety of art tools for students to use to create their own Dot masterpieces. I didn't provide much direction. I'm bias but my kids created some amazing dots. Here are a few of my favorites. This week we are going to extend our discussion by talking about ways to connect and collaborate with each other. We are also going to Skype with a couple of classes. So excited. How are you going to make your mark? We are coll...

Teaching America's future, one mind at a time. Martin Luther King Jr. Teach Like a Pirate. Wednesday, April 15, 2015. This post is a little late since we studies perimeter over a week ago. Oops. Perimeter is the distance around a shape. Since we'd been studying polygons, this seemed like a fun way to review polygons and perimeter together. Teams of students were given 12 pencils (not sharpened). It was originally supposed to be toothpicks, but I couldn't find the box I used last year. Follow General Delk...

Teaching America's future, one mind at a time. Martin Luther King Jr. Teach Like a Pirate. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. IZone Summer Institute: Putting Active into Activities. I made the (fortunate) mistake of going to this session after lunch. At 37 weeks pregnant, the last thing I wanted was to be in a session that required constant movement. I was getting to socialize in a productive way with my colleagues. That makes me happy. :). That means productive conversations. That means a whole lot. After time is ...
