http://katezreflections.blogspot.com/2014/01/im-back-and-happy-new-year.html
Wednesday, January 1, 2014. And Happy New Year! One of the first blogs that I stumbled across were Mrs. Wills and Mrs. Jump's kindergarten blogs. I saw their penguin units and was instantly in love with their ideas. Not only did I recreate their penguin unit (which we are gearing up to do in a few weeks), I also knew I needed to join this blogging world. And I'm so glad I did! This was back in October.crazy how fast babies grow! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Saturday, March 9, 2013. Spring Is In the Air.Isnt It? This year, more then most, I am very much ready for spring. The winter seems to have dragged on and on and I'm ready for some warm recess days! So then we talked about all different things that come from corn. Each child got a seed and planted it in the peat pot. It's amazing what hands-on, high interest activities do for classroom management! Would that be enough to determine that the seeds had sprouted for the purpose of our graph? They knew a half...

http://thankgoditsfirstgrade.blogspot.com/2014/01/close-reading-in-1st-grade-freebie.html
Close Reading in 1st Grade and A Freebie. Monday, January 13, 2014. Ya heard of it? My old district and new district have been all about it since adopting the Common Core. When I was first trained in close reading, I thought, HA! I thought I would break the strategy down and see how I could explain it to my students. This is what I came up with:. Those three steps above are what we focus on in our first grade classroom and I have to say I am VERY pleased! We have a common phrase in my classroom:. We rece...

March 2015 - TGIF! - Thank God It's First Grade!
http://thankgoditsfirstgrade.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. We have been spiraling our math learning big time in room 102. Since I was gone for so long on maternity leave I really wanted to be able to see what my students could do in math. So, while I still teach a focus lesson and most of our math activities are based on that specific standard (right now it's 3D shapes), I still have many of my math tubs spiral through older concepts. That is where my themed math centers come in! Follow the Rainbow: place value game! As always, in ALL my...
