Mrs. W's Kitchen: Time for Chili!
http://mrswskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/09/time-for-chili.html
Wednesday, September 23, 2009. I don't know about you, but it's been downright cold here the last several days. Even today is warmer, but the early autumn drizzle makes it feel. And that makes me want chili. MrW is particularly fond of chili with black beans. I like whatever beans are around- kidney, black, pinto. whatever. Sometimes I like to add hominy. To mine, but don't always. I even occasionally go the cheating route and buy one of those pre-packaged spice blends. They're actually quite good! Why y...
Mrs. W's Kitchen: Man Food: Spicy Black Bean Chili
http://mrswskitchen.blogspot.com/2007/10/man-food-spicy-black-bean-chili.html
Monday, October 15, 2007. Man Food: Spicy Black Bean Chili. Every other Sunday afternoon, Mr.W and a bunch of his guy friends get together for an afternoon of games, burping, scratching, and whatever else men do when they're in a room together for several hours. They like to gather in our basement, where there is a large wood table, several mismatched chairs, a coffee pot, a microwave, and enough room for about 10 men. Spicy Black Bean Chili. 2 tablespoons olive oil. 1 tablespoon chopped onion. Add to th...
Mrs. W's Kitchen: What's Up?
http://mrswskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/09/whats-up.html
Monday, September 21, 2009. Greetings, my friends! It's been an interesting week here- a few doctor's appointments have kept me occupied, and we've been eating grab-as-you-go meals. My Hebrew friends celebrated Rosh Hashana on Friday; a sweet new year to you! We've been eating a giant bag of NY State ginger gold apples almost non-stop! They are so delicious- but their texture is perfect for only so long; they must be eaten quickly! Needless to say it interrupted my sleep habits! What have you been doing?
Mrs. W's Kitchen: Transitions!
http://mrswskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/10/transitions.html
Wednesday, October 14, 2009. My life is all upside-down. I hate to drag you through it. No more baby project- that is soundly over, and in many ways I'm relieved. I can put it behind me at last. Now, an oh-my-God-I'm-turning-40-in-. I've been hiding under a rock- for that I do apologize. I missed identifying some biggies, too- Canadian Thanksgiving and Columbus Day! Here in Central NY state we're in rapid temperature decline towards winter. Yeah, it's getting COLD! Eek* I'm not ready for that. Ive never ...
Mrs. W's Kitchen: Quinoa Stuffed Winter Squash
http://mrswskitchen.blogspot.com/2007/10/quinoa-stuffed-winter-squash.html
Wednesday, October 17, 2007. Quinoa Stuffed Winter Squash. Every Tuesday I host a ladies' lunch in my home. Many of the ladies have dietary restrictions, so I try to prepare low fat, low glycemic-index meals to share. Yesterday I had a three-and-a-half pound hubbard squash just calling to be cooked. Now I've never even had hubbard squash, so this was a true mission into the unknown. But I heard it's the king of all squash- so that was promising. Winter Squash with Quinoa and Sausage Stuffing. 1 medium ta...

Casual Kitchen: Brand Disloyalty
http://casualkitchen.blogspot.com/2009/05/brand-disloyalty.html
Cook More. Think More. Spend Less. One of the easiest ways to separate consumers from their money is to encourage them to become loyal to brands. I know it's often easier and more comfortable to stay loyal to the brands and products we buy. Even the word. Has so many positive connotations that we can sometimes fool ourselves into feeling good about our loyalty to certain products. But here's the problem: the companies that manufacture the products that you loyally buy don't really care about you. I'll st...

Friday, March 28, 2008. 8220;I’m making magic shell for Allison’s birthday present! 8221; I excitedly whispered to my coworkers all last week. Allison’s recent stories of indulging in this childhood treat as her comfort food had put this easily dismissed ice cream treat front and center in my mind. 8220;Oh wow- I haven’t had that since I was a kid! Beyond the mystery industry ingredients used by Smucker. All thi...

http://www.beingfrugal.net/2009/07/15/my-foray-into-nourishing-traditions
Raquo; My Experience with Nourishing Traditions Recipes. My Experience with Nourishing Traditions Recipes. At the beginning of the summer, I mentioned that I wanted to check out a book called Nourishing Traditions. Sally Fallon, the author of the book, is also very much against processed foods and white sugar. In theory, I agree with her. In practice, I’ve found it hard to give up processed foods and sugar. So the question becamecould I do it? Honestly, they were the best whole wheat pancakes I’d e...

Brickle with Toffee and Caramel ~ Macheesmo
http://www.macheesmo.com/2009/06/brickle
Work With Me Freelance. Fresh Spring Meal Plans. June 15, 2009. December 11, 2015. A few weeks ago, I went to a barbeque. On the table there was plate of what looked to be a chocolate type dish that was crumbled up. I grabbed a piece, ate it, had eight more pieces, and then went on a mad hunt throughout the barbeque to see who brought the stuff and how much I would have to pay them for the recipe. After not too much work I tracked it down, and trust me. You want to make this Brickle. Just a moment please.
