124; Comments RSS. Does this help my students? Data and Decision Making. Posted on January 25, 2009. That shows when students have to apply brain power to figuring out basic facts, they miss out on higher level concepts. Just saying that facts fluency should be part of the grade and handing out timed tests that have 150 problems is NOT the way to go about doing this. We need to figure out quite a few things before jumping in blind. Some questions I have in my head are:. Does it at all? 3 No clue how this...

124; Comments RSS. Does this help my students? Climbing Back Up the Mountain. Posted on April 25, 2009. Basketball and baseball season completely derailed this little side project. Here’s to hoping I can get my act together and stay on top of throwing my thoughts into the ring. A little motivation came from this post. I know that as educators we never ever can stop learning. What percentage of teachers actually think this daily? Unfortunately, I’m guessing less than 50%. 124; Leave a comment.

The Presidency… | Mr. Teach

https://mrteachus.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/the-presidency

124; Comments RSS. Does this help my students? Posted on January 21, 2009. Today is a historic day. No doubt about it. Many words have been and will be written about this exact day. However, quite a few of those words will be filled with snark and jokes about our former leader, George W. Bush. If this is a time of hope and change, shouldn’t we let our former leader walk away? Maybe it’s just me, but what happened to the respect that was given to our highest office? Laquo; Newton’s Laws and Discovery.

124; Comments RSS. Does this help my students? Learning How to Search. Posted on November 29, 2008. One of the things that shocks me with each new group of students is the lack of ability to search the web for information. I’m sure this is widespread and not limited to 5th graders at my school. This is a problem that stems from a few causes. First, a lot of the information given by Google. What is the capital of Sweden? What is the weather forecast for Portland on Friday? Convert 14 cm to inches. I&#8217...

124; Comments RSS. Does this help my students? Newton’s Laws and Discovery. Posted on January 19, 2009. Beginning our unit on Newton’s Laws and force this semester, I made a pledge to myself to make sure my students are involved with the unit. I took a quote from the Science Teacher. Science is not about content–the content is ephemeral, it’s the process that matters. Step in the right direction. Two of the sets are below, guess what we discovered? Weapons of Math Instruction. Keep your life and your equations balanced…. Merv Mosher: Intro to Statistics. Math Education Image and Idea Sharing Project. August 12, 2009. I’m collecting more images for math instruction. Two reasons for this:. 1) So I can be more like Dan Meyer. 2) I have a halfway decent cell phone camera now. But how should I organize them? And how can I increase my supply of them even more? And where can I get great ideas on how to use them? How about here: flickr.com/groups/math.

Mr Teacher Man: Confessions of a Classroom Teacher. January 31, 2007. I’m not a punching bag …. Posted by Mr. Teacherman under Miscellaneous. In my nearly 10 years of teaching I’ve realized that there are many parents and community members who seem to think that teacher=punching bag, or at the very least that teacher=lower-class citizen.
