Occasional posts on subjects including field recording, London history and literature, other websites worth looking at, articles in the press, and news of sound-related events. YOU’RE SUPPOSED to redecorate your home every five years, according to popular wisdom which probably emanates from Dulux’s marketing department. Websites, however, do indeed show their age quickly. I mourn the end of simpler times when anyone could put up a site about UFOs from Antarctica and, with a cheap program like HoTMetaL.

A topnotch WordPress.com site. Books and Sites to check. Noise per Day List. Smart Phones and dB levels. November 13, 2016. Ms Glennie’s story is very intriguing. She is a world famous, prize-winning percussionist. BUT she is almost totally deaf. So, her relationship to sound and music is deeply affected by her very limited ability to hear. Rather than using her ears, she connects to sound and music by feel. Here is a TEDTalk. She did on listening. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Notify me of new...

A topnotch WordPress.com site. Books and Sites to check. Noise per Day List. I am very bothered by what I experience as unnecessary and unpleasant noise. And that covers a LOT of sounds! I assume that my sensitivity is annoying to those around me, since I can get quite cranky and petulant when my ears are blasted (or even just sort-of blasted.) In other words, it takes very low level noises to bother me. Unless I am making the noises! July 7, 2012 at 4:21 pm. You have been busy! You find work quiet?

What they all have in common is that they’re using Macbooks and iPads running Safari, which is installed as the standard browser on those devices. And the unadorned HTML5 audio element.

My thoughts and questions about sound. Audio Conceptualising ‘Sky Port’. This artwork is by RichardDorran. The art conveys a positive feeling, that of astronomical mastery. The rhythm ebbs and flows like the coming and going of spacecraft and employs a minimalistic repetition. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). June 18, 2012. As I thought about this more and more, two things flooded back to my mind that I read over the last few weeks. The first is from Anne Lamott’s new book. It is written as somewhat of a journal of her grandson’s first year of life. In one of the entries, she wants to communicate to her grandson the secret of life and she says this:. 8220;I’m not interested in crowd approval. And do you know why? John 5:40-42 (The Message). My Journey into Mystery. The Number of the Beast! Wow wow wow. What an incredible night. Iron Maiden can’t be fought! Alright, I *am* walking Mount Royal. So that’s what the top part of a payphone looks like! My friend Ryan (whom I’m currently waiting for my the Museum of Fine Art) recommended The Word on Milton as a rad book store. The Porter is a random choice and I’m pleased to find a copy of Breakfast of Champions from 1973. As an aside, the Pompeii exhibition is a must-see. Say hello to Schnitzel.
