Large scale disk-to-disk backups using Bacula. Over the past year I have been deeply involved in the nitty gritty details of choosing, designing, building, deploying and managing a new backup infrastructur at work. It has been a very educational experience. As you may have guessed from the title of this post, we chose Bacula. After building a demo setup and having 2 day onsite proof-of-concept we closed a deal with Bacula Systems. We did investigate other products ( IBM. Spanning 375 individual disks.

MySQL 5.5 is now GA. This is going to be a goooood day. MySQL. 55 just went GA. And I have time to play with it this morning. Read the official release announcement here. I last played with MySQL. 55 a couple of month ago. When replacing the binaries only, eg. no change in the configuration file I have personally seen a 150% performance improvement over MySQL. 51 for certain workloads. If you have larger multi-core machines you’ll definitely want this some of the Percona. No time to blog must go play.
