Deckle-Edged: Sexism Rampant in Publishing
http://deckledged.blogspot.com/2015/08/sexism-rampant-in-publishing.html
Musings of an Author. Wednesday, 5 August 2015. Sexism Rampant in Publishing. Hot on the revelation that female protagonists scupper an author's award chances. Comes the news that a woman writing under a male pseudonym is eight times more likely to get published. In one forum the depressing response came:. I thought this was common knowledge? Think I'm going to give this a go myself with Secret Order. Also, check out Laine Cunningham's book Writing While Female or Black or Gay. All The Work While Crying.

Deckle-Edged: Author Under-earnings
http://deckledged.blogspot.com/2015/08/author-under-earnings.html
Musings of an Author. Tuesday, 11 August 2015. The 2014 Digital Book World and Writer's Digest Author Survey. Has come up with some interesting facts:. 54% of traditionally-published authors and almost 80% of go-it-alone writers are making less than $1,000 (£600) a year. Just over 77% of self-published writers make $1,000 or less a year. A startlingly high 53.9% of traditionally-published authors report their earnings are below the same threshold. That said, there's a distinction between writing as a hob...

Musings of an Author. Wednesday, 11 July 2012. Well, well, well. Resurrection of a past era. When I was about ten or eleven, I was in WHSmith - book section (naturally) - choosing something to read on the train. I had recently gone to live with my mum, so Dad would come and collect me every fortnight for the train ride to London. The book that I chose was Vault of the Vampire. If you haven't seen them before, they're sort of a cross between Dungeons and Dragons and Point Horror. Do you open the trapdoor?

Deckle-Edged: Writing Jouissance
http://deckledged.blogspot.com/2015/08/writing-jouissance.html
Musings of an Author. Sunday, 9 August 2015. Earlier this year I was reading a story collection. And one story in particular really stood out. I loved the writer's style, so looked her up. Turns out she's both an erotica writer and a lecturer on the subject. That means she not only knows how to talk dirty, but can teach you to do it too, then rank you F to A* on effort. Having read one of her novels. And a couple of short stories. My appreciation of Remittance Girl. Okay, stop it. Coffee and a Book Comp.
