Spring Creek Gems: May 2013
http://springcreekgems.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Netherland Dwarf Rabbits and Bantam Cochins in NE Tennessee. Friday, May 24, 2013. As some of you know, Spring Creek Gems is now closed. It's been a great run, but it's time to move on to other things. This decision has been coming for a long time, and some of you may have suspected it as I sold off rabbits, and went to fewer shows. I need to downsize my life which means smaller house and smaller yard. There won't be room for anything but me and my dog. As I move on to the next phase of my life. So the o...

Spring Creek Gems: July 2012
http://springcreekgems.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Netherland Dwarf Rabbits and Bantam Cochins in NE Tennessee. Saturday, July 28, 2012. The latest issue of Backyard Poultry. So what's happening in my yard that makes it so perfect for chickens? I don't use any chemicals or pesticides other than Round-Up to keep garden edges neat and eliminate the need to trim hard to mow areas. The diversity of plant life encourages a multitude of animal life.insects, worms, etc. I dump rabbit manure directly on gardens which invites more life. Tuesday, July 24, 2012.

Spring Creek Gems: Oooh, what's that smell?
http://springcreekgems.blogspot.com/2013/02/oooh-whats-that-smell.html
Netherland Dwarf Rabbits and Bantam Cochins in NE Tennessee. Friday, February 8, 2013. Oooh, what's that smell? Last night was more like the sorta burnt odor you catch in your car when you go by roadkill. In fact, when I first woke up to it, I was trying to place it as something burning. It was still strong enough that the skunk must have been very close to my house which is closed up because it's cold out. It sleepily looked up at me and I immediately shut the door before it woke up fully. It left, ...

Spring Creek Gems: April 2012
http://springcreekgems.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Netherland Dwarf Rabbits and Bantam Cochins in NE Tennessee. Monday, April 30, 2012. I had a separate blog for gardening but have decided since I don't blog about gardening as much as I used to, I'll just do it here. It fits with everything else that happens here at Spring Creek. So occasionally I'll post garden tips and photos. Make a shrub or small tree bloom out of season. Yes you can, if you know this simple trick. This one is growing on an Althea ( Rose of Sharon. This is actually the 1st year for t...

Spring Creek Gems: Chicks, man.
http://springcreekgems.blogspot.com/2013/03/chicks-man.html
Netherland Dwarf Rabbits and Bantam Cochins in NE Tennessee. Thursday, March 28, 2013. In the last post, I mentioned a chick that was found later in the day after the first 5. This is it. It's a bit lighter than the other patterned one. A thing I noticed was that its beak is colored. The other one, even though it's darker, has a pink beak. Got me wondering sooo. Got a better idea of colors and maybe sexes. Looks like 2 buffs, 1 white, 1 birchen ( the aforementioned darker patterned. Blogged about how she...

Spring Creek Gems: 4.6.13
http://springcreekgems.blogspot.com/2013/04/4613.html
Netherland Dwarf Rabbits and Bantam Cochins in NE Tennessee. Saturday, April 6, 2013. I got more chicks since the last post. There's now 9. First there was another Silky/Cochin and another patterned white. I raised them alone until they were big enough to join the week older chicks in the big bin. That went well. The S/C is different than the 1st one, more gray than brown. It's so cute! The oldest S/C is now looking like it will have Cochin feathers, but with the head pouf. That should be adorable! Speak...

The Wee Dark Hours: End of year clearance.
http://weedarkhours.blogspot.com/2013/12/end-of-year-clearance.html
Tuesday, December 31, 2013. End of year clearance. Seemed like as good a title as any for the last day of the year. I feel like clearing a few things out of my brain. The war on Christmas. Yeah, I'm going there, albeit a bit late. You know by now, religion is not my thing. So I get a bit irate by all the shit about Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays. Allow me to break it down to show why this is the stupidest argument ever. Everyone knows ( or should by now. Oh and one more thing. The reason for the ...

Spring Creek Gems: May 19, 2013
http://springcreekgems.blogspot.com/2013/05/may-19-2013.html
Netherland Dwarf Rabbits and Bantam Cochins in NE Tennessee. Sunday, May 19, 2013. May 19, 2013. Not much happening in the rabbitry. I have 2 broken babies in the box, and they just opened their eyes. That's about it for news there. The oldest ones are getting on the highest roost already. The one at the front of the line is one of my favs. He's half Silky, half Cochin. Super fluffy! I decided to revive the garden blog. From now on, garden and nature stuff will go there. Natureschild Gardenworks. Besides...
