Merry fly fisher: February 2014
http://merryflyfisher.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, 9 February 2014. It's been a quiet winter as far as fishing goes. Had a couple of days out but nothing memorable, Christmas and skiing holidays seem to have taken over. But I've tried to keep busy at the fly tying desk, and with most of my Christmas/birthday gifts focused around fly tying there has been plenty of motivation to idle away at my new muskoka vice (fantastic). Here are my first attempts of patterns from Oliver Edwards fantastic fly tyers master class. Hot head hares ear. Up we go̷...

Merry fly fisher: Hiatus and new beginning
http://merryflyfisher.blogspot.com/2015/02/hiatus-and-new-beginning.html
Friday, 13 February 2015. Hiatus and new beginning. Had a bit of a fly fishing and fly tying hiatus at the end of 2014. I'd been living in Yorkshire for four years enjoying the many fine rivers it had to offer. I moved up in 2010 for work, and loved my time there, however me and my partner had always planned to return to our roots in the West Country eventually. Before Organisation - 8 half filled boxes, loose flies and 2 new boxes. Organised with plenty of space. As for fishing, I will be testing out De...

Merry fly fisher: Stillwater Flies
http://merryflyfisher.blogspot.com/2015/03/stillwater-flies.html
Monday, 30 March 2015. I blanked, pretty badly. I remember standing between a group of around 8 anglers, all catching, and thinking what have I got myself into here. I only fished Chew twice, and Blagdon once all year that year, and never had a sniff of a fish. But I am hoping I can redeem myself this year. Hopefully with something below. Crunchers (hot spot on a couple). Olive Minkie, Viva, Damsel nymph and buzzers. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Becks and Brown Trout. Happy Fourth of July!

Merry fly fisher: July 2014
http://merryflyfisher.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 29 July 2014. I've wanted a DSLR camera for a long time now, but its always been just a bit too expensive to treat myself too. So, as an effort to prove to myself it would be a good investment (ha! Also, before purchasing a brand new DSLR then immediately dropping it in the river, I thought I'd get practice using a camera on the river which wouldn't break my heart if it took a swim. Couple this with a few days out on the local beck and the River Swale, below are some of my amateur efforts. It wa...

25th April, stockie bashing!! – Days on the river
https://bloodyfishing.wordpress.com/2015/04/29/25th-april-stockie-bashing
Days on the river. A record of my fishing trips. April 29, 2015. 25th April, stockie bashing! To say it was a red letter day might be a bit of an understatement. I managed to stay in the house until about 12.15 or so before setting off today. I think the official description of the weather would be drizzleturning to a heave drizzle. this dried up somewhat as I got to the river but was still overcast and noticeably cooler than the preceding few days. I arrived at the river today at around 12.45. I would a...

Merry fly fisher: Cam Brook
http://merryflyfisher.blogspot.com/2015/05/cam-brook.html
Monday, 4 May 2015. I'd planned a Sunday fish for a few weeks, it was the second available weekend since the start of the trout season so I was keen for a full day. Weather looked good, I was up early and by the river by 10am, not too bad for this time of year. Unfortunately the day was interrupted as I had to turn around and get home to take our poorly cat to the emergency vets (he's fine) - so I was back at the river for 2pm. Not a bad day, could've been better, but looks like Cam brook has potential.

18th April, Rowlands Gill – Days on the river
https://bloodyfishing.wordpress.com/2015/04/25/18th-april-rowlands-gill
Days on the river. A record of my fishing trips. April 25, 2015. 18th April, Rowlands Gill. It was Rowlands Gill’s turn for my fishing attention today. Another bright sunny day was on the card with some cloud but thankfully little or no wind that has hampered my last few visits to the river Derwent so far this year. I arrived at the river about 11.30 or so todaytrying my hardest not to get there too early as all my records tell me fishing can be slow on the morning at this time of year. Anywhoo the rewar...

Quick Session 17th April – Days on the river
https://bloodyfishing.wordpress.com/2015/05/19/quick-session-17th-april
Days on the river. A record of my fishing trips. May 19, 2015. Quick Session 17th April. Truth be known I wasn’t sure I was going to make it to the river today , I was feeling more than a little ropey and for once it was not drink induced. shock horror. However I managed to get the grass cut and do a bit of weeding before setting of towards the river, I did have to stop at the fabulous farm shop for some eggs. but eventually I landed on the river at Rowlands Gill at around 11.45. Next pool was a differen...
