St Johns the Baptist. Whether you travel along the A697 or the A1 you can be sure to see signs for Edlingham. We approached the village from the road out of Alnwick. In reality the village is just a cluster of houses but looks are deceptive for this is a land where people have settled and lived for many thousands of years. Ros Castle, Northumberland. Not a castle so much as a landmark and, when you see the position and view, you can't help but wonder if at one time this had not been a hill fort which is what wikipedia. Suggests and dates it back 3000 years. It is on the hillside immediately above Chillingham. And views across the Millfield plain. Chillingham. With castle and cattle. Ros Castle on Kyloe hills blog. Staying in the College Valley. At Hethpool nearest to the main road the Mill is the most recently restored. It offers lots of space with an open plan layout, wood burning stove and a large modern kitchen. The views up the valley are beautiful and you often see the most beautiful sunsets. Outside there is a large fenced area and a dog kennel and run. There is a grass field around the Mill which is often stocked with Cheviot sheep. Inside there is a modern kitchen/dining room and a lounge with an open fire.

Friday, 22 August 2008. Gefrin , Wooler and ancient history. The Royal Township of the Anglo Saxon Kings of Northumbria. It was here in AD 627 that Paulinus, the missionary, preached and baptized the local people in the River Glen. Where ever you travel around Wooler and Cheviot hills you are not far away from medieval and ancient history. The Countryside, away from the coast, is intimate and speaks of old times. There is magic in the air. In the College Valley, also nearby are Coldburn cottage.

Wednesday, 27 August 2008. My 14th, 15th and 16th Great Grandfather Tyndales were born in this Castle between 1370 and 1435! My 17th Great Grandfather was the Baron of Tyndale and owned the land before the Langley Castle was built. 28 July 2009 at 15:39.
