Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Splinter Hill Bog, part I. This past weekend I went on a field trip to Splinter Hill Bog. Near Perdido, Alabama, with friends and colleagues to find carnivorous plants. There are many great places to find plant carnivores in the Florida Panhandle and boggy areas to its west, but Splinter Hill boasts a diversity that few others can match: 5 species of Sarracenia. Pitcher plants), 3 Drosera. Sundews), 1 Utricularia. Bladderwort), and 2 Pinguicula. Flowers of Sarracenia leucophylla.

Monday, September 15, 2014. Pine Rocklands project and field work. A few weeks ago I went on the first field trip for a new project I'm involved in with a colleague here at UF, Ben Baiser. And colleagues have determined that two ferns alive today, but whose ancestors diverged from one another around 60 million years ago, have hybridized to form a new (although sterile) species. Over varens in bos en tuin. Vrijdag 19 maart 2010. Het varenbos maakt zich op voor de lente. Eindelijk lijkt ook het voorjaar niet ver weg meer in het varenbos. Na een aantal weken met flinke nachtvorst met temperaturen tot -10 graden, wat voor de zuidwestgrens in de Correze uitzonderlijk koud en heftig is, blijven de temperaturen nu eindelijk weer boven nul.
