Oor Man in Japan

Oor Man in Japan. Wednesday, 27 August 2008. The long working hours (sometimes coupled with the excessive weekend drinking) can often take its toll on the Japanese and it is very common to see people asleep in almost any situation. The following examples are courtesy of fellow intern Juan (all were captured in the space of a few hours! Juan points out the problem. Nice shoes (back home they would have been stolen by this point). A nice comfy girder. Don't miss your train! Monday, 25 August 2008. An painf...

Oor Man in Japan: June 2008

http://www.oormaninjapan.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Oor Man in Japan. Monday, 30 June 2008. Kamakura is a coastal town which was at one point the Centre for the biggest empire in Japan. The Emperor at the time felt he needed the will of the Gods on his side and hence ordered that many temples be built and a Giant Iron Buddah. It was very busy with lots of tourists but I managed to see most things. A traditional Buddhist wedding, although I understand these are becoming less popular in favour of western-style weddings. Friday, 13 June 2008. I had a really ...

Oor Man in Japan. Sunday, 6 July 2008. In order to make maximum use of space there are parking machines like this across Japan. You put your car in then it rotates round like rotisserie. Not sure what happens if it gets stuck! Last Sunday I went to a Gothic Industrial Metal night in Shinjuku. Psydoll - http:/ www. psydoll. This group were sort of new romantic and were throwing roses into the crowd. Glasgow special Whyte and MacKay - and cheaper than back home too! Ryan, Loic and Mika leaving party. We we...

Oor Man in Japan: Family Visit - Kyoto 1

http://www.oormaninjapan.blogspot.com/2008/08/family-visit-kyoto-1.html

Oor Man in Japan. Sunday, 24 August 2008. Family Visit - Kyoto 1. After staying in Tokyo for a few days we caught a Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto. Here we swapped the hustle and bustle of Tokyo for the more tranquil traditional temples and gardens. The view from our room. Enjoying cocktails at the fancy hotel bar.until the bill came! A really nice little tempura place. Alan shows off his Yukata (summer robes) left for us in our room. Me in Yukata :). Mum and Dad taking in the Zen. Alan leaves a menny.

Oor Man in Japan: Atsugi Ayu Matsuri Festival

http://www.oormaninjapan.blogspot.com/2008/08/atsugi-ayu-matsuri-festival.html

Oor Man in Japan. Monday, 25 August 2008. Atsugi Ayu Matsuri Festival. Every year Atsugi has a big festival to celebrate the river and the Ayu (small sweet-fish). It is held at a point on the River where Atsugi meets 2 other big cities. All together more than 500, 000 people were in attendance. There is a massive fireworks display and everyone comes dressed in Yukata (long robes) or Jimbe (pyjama-like summer clothes). Of course I joined in and got my own Jimbe to wear :). Atsugi Ayu Matsuri Festival.

Tim's Japanese Travel Archive: Sabino Canyon

http://gaijintim.blogspot.com/2009/12/sabino-canyon.html

Tim's Japanese Travel Archive. I'm an American student from Texas Tech University that worked at an engineering internship at Asahi Kasei for a year in Atsugi Japan. The only Japanese language experience I had was from two years at Texas Tech's Japanese program, so here are my past stories. Monday, December 28, 2009. It is very scenic and there are tons of little hiking trails that go all throughout the desert. Me in front of the desert. Since it is the desert, there are many huge cactus.

Oor Mad History

What is Oor Mad History? Monday, 13 June 2011. The campaign for crisis services 10 June 2011. This is the text of a talk I (Anne) gave at the Edinburgh Crisis Centre Learning Event on Friday 10 June 2011. Later on I read from the section on the Crisis Services Campaign in the Oor Mad History book, pp 90-95. I remember sitting in an office in Deaconess House, with Brian Cavanagh, who was the chair of NHS Lothian, and he said that the crisis centre was the shibboleth of the user movement. In the interviews...
