our life in the north: Making Stuff

http://ourlifeinthenorth.blogspot.com/2013/06/making-stuff.html

Our life in the north. Tuesday, 18 June 2013. I haven’t blogged for a while for two reasons. Firstly, I was studying too and so my evenings were fairly full and secondly I was getting a bit bored with reciting the same old stuff about swimming and maths and all that. As an example this was part of my latest plan:. This was our Father’s Day present for Daddy. It is a very cool book full of father/son projects (if you want to have a sneaky peek inside try Amazon. This has basically been my strategy. Wo...

Our life in the north. Monday, 6 May 2013. I don’t normally blog about our weekends because at the moment we don’t do much “work” as I am usually studying myself. But this weekend I was out and about a little bit as we had cousins visiting. On Saturday we completed the teddy bear trail. And while we were out Daddy was doing this:. On Sunday we had a very lovely trip to Wallington Hall. It wasn’t the warmest day but we still had fun! Friday, 3 May 2013. He returned from the shop with a. He has to stay out...

Our life in the north. Wednesday, 27 March 2013. We helped him with the spellings and he is really trying with full stops and capital letters. He’s remembered a lot of detail! Here they all are working away (sorry for the blur! LB1 worked through his maths workbook. It is getting really hard! There are some of the questions I have to think twice about – and I’m doing a degree in it! The Center Parcs Adventure. When we got to Center Parcs the first thing we did is go straight to the sub tropical swimming ...

http://ourlifeinthenorth.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Our life in the north. Tuesday, 30 April 2013. LG was at playgroup this morning so the boys and I got back to our routine of swimming on Tuesdays. LB1 did 20 lengths today! LB2 is working on improving his stroke and we have been practising swimming underwater. I bought some new goggles for LG after her last ones broke and have been borrowing them myself and trying to improve my own swimming (I have to keep up you know! Monday, 29 April 2013. So today we went to the garden centre:. We recapped a bit on th...

Dancing In The Mud: December 2014

http://dancinginthemud.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Dancing In The Mud. A home educating life. Why and how we home educate. Wednesday, 17 December 2014. Christmas craft and beach. Harry finished sewing his Christmas tree decoration this morning. He likes this type of pre-punched sewing kit. Peter made a cut-out window decoration and a Lego/jam jar snowstorm. Harry did this a few weeks ago and Peter wanted to make a matching one. The glue-gun glue in Harry's had unstuck too so we used superglue this time on the jar lids. Tuesday, 16 December 2014. We also ...

Dancing In The Mud. A home educating life. Why and how we home educate. Saturday, 31 May 2014. Day in the garden. It has been a lovely and productive day around home. Peter and I went to the allotment this morning to plant our seedlings in the beds. We put sweetcorn, squash and courgettes in and realised we have quite a lot of weeding to do this week! Stuart and Harry cut the grass at home and there was slide and ball play. Followed by water gun play with Daddy, of course, as the target! We walked over t...

Dancing In The Mud. A home educating life. Why and how we home educate. Sunday, 29 June 2014. Great Fire of London workshop. We had a look at a map and some paintings of London at the time of the fire. We discussed the architecture of the time and how that contributed to the spread of the fire: streets close together and overhanging jetties. We really enjoyed the workshop. Peter spent most of it cutting up an old magazine and making pictures with it, so he was happy! Wednesday, 25 June 2014. Harry was en...

Dancing In The Mud. A home educating life. Why and how we home educate. Wednesday, 7 January 2015. New Year home education. We had a lovely two week Christmas holiday and saw all of our close family. It feels like a long time since I updated here! Stuart went back to work on Monday but before that we went swimming, visited the Centre for Life and Gibside together. We have also played many, many games of Uno, read lots of new books and built Lego Christmas presents. I won't be changing much about our rout...

Dancing In The Mud. A home educating life. Why and how we home educate. Monday, 16 February 2015. We had fun with some science activities last week and were joined by some friends. I used the Dyson challenge cards, which were free from the learning section of the Dyson website, and we explored expanding gases and viscosity. These were very effective and simple demonstrations and I love the concise explanations on the cards of the science behind it. Monday, 9 February 2015. Finally, an update! Harry has s...

Dancing In The Mud. A home educating life. Why and how we home educate. Tuesday, 16 December 2014. Playing games, craft and swimming. We were all very tired this morning after being away at the weekend. We also had friends over to play yesterday, a bike ride and the Beavers Christmas disco, which was a later night than usual. And we played our new favourite game - Uno. Both boys love this and Harry would play for ages but Peter gets bored after a few rounds. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Adventures...

http://dancinginthemud.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Dancing In The Mud. A home educating life. Why and how we home educate. Monday, 29 September 2014. We really enjoyed a museum workshop with other home educating families this morning. The theme was 'dinosaur detectives'. We handled fossils and talked about how they became fossilised and about how we know facts about extinct animals. We compared carnivore and herbivore teeth and even saw pictures of fossilised dinosaur poo, which was very popular with the children of course! Friday, 26 September 2014.

Dancing In The Mud. A home educating life. Why and how we home educate. Friday, 24 October 2014. Art, party, parks and decorating. Harry finished his latest picture at art class last week - a rhino. This is my favourite so far; I like the green shading. We joined some friends for a Halloween party - the boys loved filling the pumpkin piñata with a huge amount of sweets, although they only had a handful each! We haven't painted yet but will be doing it soon, along with carpet shopping! Thursday, 23 Octobe...

In The Sticks

Tuesday, March 28, 2017. God brought me a memory of sitting at my mom’s kitchen table playing with my rings before dinner. Phew! Thank you, Jesus! It was then that I knew it was either at my house or at the farm, and not at one of the public places I visited earlier in the day. It was enough peace to help me drift off to sleep. My other friend, Beth, and her son were already there helping with farm chores. Within minutes, Beth found my rings! I wish that was where the story ended. I wasn’t too pani...

Thursday, December 6, 2012. Happy Birthday C and G. Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Waiting For G and C. Today I am linking up with A Place Called Simplicity. This woman is an example of the Gospel here on Earth. She is the mom of many and rallies the best prayer warriors around. And I know that we could all use a little prayer. She has put together a little questionnaire for all her bloggy friends to get to know us. 1 How many children are you adopting? Two, a boy and a girl. 6 Have you adopted before?
