Following in the footsteps of intrepid explorers and leaders of legendary expeditions into vast, unknown wildernesses, a few weekends ago we decided to hike up Table Mountain. Two words: 'Wow' and 'ouch'. But mostly just 'Wowwww.'. Skinny jeans, cardigans and beards optional, laid back attitudes and healthy appetites essential.

Make sure that you have two clear pages left in your passport. I am told that they are very strict about this and it would be a crazy way to be refused entry. There is nowhere in South Africa that would make a 4-wheel drive a necessity. Dirt roads and flat tyres.
