Here’s another gem from the Keystone Racetrack archives, this time courtesy of the. In the past, every time Keystone Race Track opens a new thoroughbred season, the track in Cornwells Heights presents a new and pretty appearance. There are other cosmetic improvements. Floral beds with emphasis on red parent...

Thoughts and news from the Keystone State and Mid-Atlantic region. The good 'ole days at Liberty Bell Park in northeast Philadelphia. Sunday, March 4, 2012. The Golden Years in Jersey. Hearing the news that the N. J. Horsemen's Association is going to lease grand old Monmouth Park, and that there may be major changes afoot to the facility beginning next year, made me feel a little nostalgic for the good old days at the Oceanport oval. The picture in the top left-hand corner of the above page always fasci...

Thoughts and news from the Keystone State and Mid-Atlantic region. The good 'ole days at Liberty Bell Park in northeast Philadelphia. Thursday, November 29, 2012. The Lock Haven Legend. Recently, we wrote about a racetrack in New Jersey that has faded into the mists of time – little-known Guttenberg, which was located in urban North Bergen, in Hudson County. See the blog post here: http:/ www.pathoroughbred.blogspot.com/2012/11/remembering-gut.html. 8220;Everything in the shape of a fine looking horse, s...

Pennsylvania Thoroughbred: July 2012

Thoughts and news from the Keystone State and Mid-Atlantic region. The good 'ole days at Liberty Bell Park in northeast Philadelphia. Monday, July 30, 2012. All in the family. To those involved in thoroughbred racing, whether as an owner, trainer, groom, exercise rider or hotwalker, life on the backstretch can often seem like living with one big family. As in any family, relationships aren’t often perfect, but they are strong and lasting, through the good times and the bad. I was one of the many people w...

Through the Eyes of a Deaf Equine Fanatic: Spring is wound season

http://deafequinefanatic.blogspot.com/2015/05/spring-is-wound-season.html

Friday, May 29, 2015. Spring is wound season. Poor Limerick presented with a wound on her right hock last night. When I saw it, my blood pressure went through the roof. Most wounds don't bother me, but wounds over a joint- no matter how small- make me neurotic. The swelling was very minimal and clearly from trauma to the tissue, which is expected. And although the wound had a bit of a scooped-out appearance, there was no puncture. Thankfully. After a restless night I visited Limerick early this morning t...

Through the Eyes of a Deaf Equine Fanatic: Death of Joey & general update on Lim

http://deafequinefanatic.blogspot.com/2015/07/death-of-joey-general-update-on-lim.html

Monday, July 6, 2015. Death of Joey and general update on Lim. A couple years ago I wrote a post about Lim's then-boyfriend, Joey. A few months after that post, Joey's owners opted to move him to pasture board. He had a hard time adjusting to the change and lost weight rapidly. Limerick was walked over to his body to say goodbye to an old friend. Lim and Joey, summer 2012. Limerick has been okay aside from some vague hind end lameness, not unlike what she had in 2013. I think the soreness was a compe...

Thursday, April 30, 2015. It's always nice to see your horse doing this after recovering from a hoof abscess. I free-lunged Limerick on Sunday to see how her feet were. To my relief, she was sound and I was able to ride her Monday and yesterday. Here are a couple clips from Sunday:. Heidi E. Carpenter. Links to this post. Thursday, April 23, 2015. Quick update: Limerick, Calusa Red breaking his maiden, and Deaf Women History Month. Lastly, I came across this article today about Deaf Women History Month.

Through the Eyes of a Deaf Equine Fanatic: January 2015

http://deafequinefanatic.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 7, 2015. What a difference in the weather between the New Year's Days of 2014 and 2015. Last year we had a blizzard dumping inches of fresh powder onto a thick layer of old snow. This year, however, was sunny and brown. My husband took the photo of Limerick and me on New Year's Day 2015, and I'm including the photos I took of Lim on New Year's Day 2014 for comparison. I hope everyone has a wonderful 2015! Heidi E. Carpenter. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
