Bicol Express Origins - Pinoy Wit

http://www.pinoywit.com/bicol-express-origins

Bicol Express Origins Manila or Bicol? September 24, 2013. Bull; 24 Comments. There is no doubt that Bicol Express is one of the Philippines’ most popular dishes. This is thanks in no small measure to the heat this flavorful dish packs. As the story goes, it’s named after the train that plies the Manila-Naga route. For obvious reasons, it is a common assumption that the dish naturally hails from the Bicol region. Bicol dishes call for chili overload. Said Kalaw based her recipe on. Curiously, even if we ...

Category Archives: Cultural Heritage. Ten Best OPM Music Videos Featuring Philippine Society and Culture. March 17, 2015. Bull; 16 Comments. It’s true. We’re getting better at music videos, so I thought now would be a good time for a list of top ten best OPM music videos. A few requirements were factored in for this compilation. Naturally, there had to be. Kick-ass elements, but each video also had to prominently feature a PH factor — some aspect of Philippine history, society or culture. Bringing togeth...

Simala Shrine - Monastery of the Holy Eucharist

Simala Shrine – Monastery of the Holy Eucharist in Sibonga Cebu. January 2, 2015. Bull; 0 Comments. The Simala Shrine in 2011. The welcome mat wasn’t quite rolled out for the monks. The locals supposedly weren’t very accommodating. At first and the rough terrain was unsuitable for planting. The general outlook towards the monks may have taken a turn for the better however, when the Virgin Mary was said to have interceded through the Penitential Rosary Walk in 1998 to stave off an epidemic. To my unskille...

Bones of Contention The Andres Bonifacio Lectures Book Recap

http://www.pinoywit.com/bones-of-contention-book-recap-bonifacio-lectures

Bones of Contention Book Recap Inside Ocampo’s Bonifacio Lectures. April 7, 2014. Bull; 0 Comments. Ocampo does more than tell interesting stories of course. He also digs deep, retracing faint footprints in recorded events and breaking treasured notions of a noble past, allowing us to discover and come to terms with half hidden truths about who we really are as a nation. With the limitations inherent in such a subject, what does Ocampo manage to unearth for us? Did they or did they not find his bones?

Kinilaw History, Origin and Evolution Into the Heart of Freshness. June 27, 2015. Bull; 1 Comment. I’ve had experience researching and writing about the origins of Filipino dishes before, but while. Seemed straightforward enough,. Proved surprisingly complicated. What I thought would be a walk in the park has morphed into a wild ride around a vast, evolving culinary universe (Oops). 🙂. Fernandez and Alegre’s ode to freshness. Click on a link below to go directly to the section:. 2 To Cook or Not to Cook.

Caustic Thoughts: About Me

http://www.causticthoughts.com/p/about-me.html

I'm Pinoy Wit a full time mother and internet geek. When I'm not breaking apart boxing matches between babies or putting together hundreds of articles from an assembly line, I like to make life more complicated by thinking about existential philosophy, the nature of antimatter and world peace. Negative plus negative equals positive, but who am I to say that. I nearly failed algebra. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Enter your email address and get post updates:. Friends of Caustic Thoughts.

Caustic Thoughts: Interstellar Mini Movie Review

http://www.causticthoughts.com/2015/04/interstellar-movie-review.html

Monday, April 27, 2015. Interstellar Mini Movie Review. I’ve been emotionally compromised. I couldn’t stop thinking about Interstellar days after I’d watched it, and I’ve had to rationalize my prolonged teary-eyed state as distress over more mundane concerns (paying my annual income tax, for example), when in reality, I wanted to weep for Cooper. Cooper leaves behind his broken hearted 10 year old daughter, Murph, but is determined to one day return. It is later revealed that Brand lied about there b...

Caustic Thoughts: Lost Soles

http://www.causticthoughts.com/2014/11/lost-soles-misamis-oriental-job-hunting.html

Saturday, November 15, 2014. But the hammer in my head proved to be the least of my worries. By the time I reached the middle of my walk, I noticed tiny black particles following my every step. I thought the heat had finally gotten the best of me, making me more paranoid than usual. It turned out I wasn’t hallucinating. The little black things dodging my every step came from the bottom of my fake shoes. I dragged my feet carefully but still left traces of black pseudo leather on the carpet. I didn’...

Personal Cook Files: French Beans with Yogurt Mint and Blue Cheese Sauce

http://www.personalcookfiles.com/2015/01/french-beans-yogurt-mint-blue-cheese.html

The story of a marriage told in the language of food. Friday, January 9, 2015. French Beans with Yogurt Mint and Blue Cheese Sauce. J saw Jamie Oliver prepare yogurt and mint sauce on TV and thought, “Let’s add some blue cheese in there.”. Regretfully, dawn meals and cheap cameras make for awful food photos. J said he’d recreate this for me so I can take a better shot, but he and I have been so busy, we’d probably have to schedule that reshoot ten years down the track. Mint leaves, finely chopped.

Personal Cook Files: Roast Chicken Breast Wraps

http://www.personalcookfiles.com/2014/04/roast-chicken-breast-wraps.html

The story of a marriage told in the language of food. Friday, April 25, 2014. Roast Chicken Breast Wraps. We all ate in silence, pondering the gentle roll of sweet cherries over a fusion of soft chicken and crisp bacon. We passed out after, unhealthy but profoundly happy. This time, J decided to recreate a recipe from Perfect Roasts by Paragon Books Ltd. Of course he’s had to improvise. Thanks to my mom, we now have an oven to make improvisation and experimentation a lot easier. Serve with the sauce.

The story of a marriage told in the language of food. Friday, March 20, 2015. Baked Layered Bacon and Eggs. This was another one of his dawn breakfast masterpieces that left me stunned and unable to speak. It might have been my cholesterol levels kicking up a notch, but I'd like to believe I was simply mesmerized by the heavenly bacon in a cloud of fluffy eggs. 1 tbsp. olive oil. 189; tsp. salt. 188; tsp. pepper. 2 tbsp. chopped parsley. 1 Coat a square baking pan with olive oil. Personal Cook Files: Baked Meatball Sandwich

http://www.personalcookfiles.com/2014/07/baked-meatball-sandwich.html

The story of a marriage told in the language of food. Saturday, July 5, 2014. When Jan feeds me breakfast like this, he says he has an ulterior motive. He says he wants to fatten me up. For what reason, I'm not sure, but I can almost imagine him channeling the wicked witch from Hansel and Gretel. Kidding aside, I know why he does this. He simply enjoys it. 189; kilo ground beef. 3 tbsp tomato paste. 2 cups diced tomatoes. 2 tbsp dried oregano. 2 tbsp dried basil leaves. 2 tbsp olive oil. This is how spag...
