Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Translocal Caramelized Fennel and Onions. Fennel roots were at the Union Square farmers' market when I left at the beginning of July, and are still at the French farmers' markets I've been visiting the past few weeks. Remai. Fodder for my new idea of the "translocal"? Which so far has this behind it: what's local in one place might carry across oceans to be local in another too.). Caramelized Fennel and Onions. 1 T olive oil. 3 medium fennel roots. 1 cup white or rosé wine. Ground...

http://foodfromthebackyard.blogspot.com/2013/08/what-to-do-with-whey.html
Food from the Backyard. One family's adventure to grow our own food, eat local and be a little more sustainable. Friday, August 23, 2013. What to do with Whey? The whey I started with. Straining curds from whey. Many weeks I feed the whey from cheese making to the chickens and ducks. I pour it right into their water bowl while it is still a little warm. They love it! This week I decided to be more creative and find an yummy dinner item for all that whey. It is really easy too! If your whey is. NOTE: This...

Tuesday, July 16, 2013. New carrots are in! Carrots last well into the winter and get sweeter with age, but the new ones are here now, and with a little honey and other tricks can be quite fantastic. And these ones are really the most perfect side for duck that I can imagine. But duck, local and seasonal? Is by far my favorite. While the regular translation of magret de canard. carrotcake for breakfast: Creamy Coconut Sauce
http://carrotcakeforbreakfast.blogspot.com/2008/05/creamy-coconut-sauce.html
Friday, May 9, 2008. Monday night I think I made this because we had extra coconut milk that needed to be used. I heated the coconut milk, added corn starch, cayenne pepper, garlic, soy sauce, salt and pepper and let it thicken. And I poured it on top of stir-fried vegetables and noodles. It was surprisingly really good. Sweet and savory. I LOVE burnt toast! You need to teach me how to make it. June 1, 2008 at 5:48 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Friday, May 9, 2008. This week has been SO stressful. Between senior reviews, signing up for TPP classes (and getting billed), working, applying to day camps for work this summer, getting my school to finally defer my college payments, and studying for the MTEL test(! Which is TOMORROW, I've been keeping meals simple. Monday, May 5, 2008. Chickpea Patties and Mushroom Gravy. Well, I hate them, but I always keep some on hand for when we run out of fresh vegetables (like last night). But Did They Eat It?
