Traveling one day at a time. A Tale of Two Rides (at least two). June 11, 2016. It occurred to me that I’ve begun a blog to chronicle my upcoming motorcycle trip across the United States, give voice to some motorcycle inspired thoughts, and to share some experiences I’ve had on my motorcycle. But the thing that I haven’t really done here is introduce THE MOTORCYCLE. Not bad for a 2009 C109RT Boulevard. Suzuki decided to stop production on these bikes. Why? She’s picky about a few things. Dissolve into fl...

Traveling one day at a time. A Tale of Two Rides (at least two). June 24, 2016. June 24, 2016. Since I live about 5 hours from the coast, I’m doing the first leg separate from the rest of the ride across the United States. I broke all my riding rules today. Got a late start (for a great reason, but still ). Rode through morning rush hour in Atlanta. Stopped at a chain for lunch. 4 hours on the interstate. Didn’t even stop for pictures. But my bike likes eating up the miles at (cough)ish mph. You are comm...

On a Warm Winter’s Night | themotorcycletourer

Traveling one day at a time. A Tale of Two Rides (at least two). On a Warm Winter’s Night. December 4, 2016. It’s cold (for Atlanta), and raining, and gray. The days are short. The dark nights are getting longer. But if you look, there are bright spots. Houses lit up for Christmas. Fireplaces with crackling logs (yes we have fireplaces in Georgia, mostly for looks). The smell of baked goodies that you will get in trouble for nibbling on because those are going to be gifts! This past summer I got to tour ...

Traveling one day at a time. A Tale of Two Rides (at least two). November 24, 2016. November 27, 2016. Honestly, when I began the blog I wasn’t sure what it’s purpose would be. Maybe a record of the trip (it was). Maybe a way to stay in touch with my friends and family who would want to keep up with my adventure (it was). Or maybe a way to get those inside-my-own-helmet thoughts down in some coherent form (yep). Today, I think this blog is D all of the above. I would. I should. I did. Liked by 1 person.

Traveling one day at a time. A Tale of Two Rides (at least two). July 26, 2015. May 14, 2016. This is the initial post here on themotorcycletourer, so I think it’s only fair that you get a heads up on who I am, and what I’m trying to do with this blog. Honestly, it’s an extension of my bucket list dream of traveling coast to coast across the United States on my bike, meeting great people, eating some great food, and seeing some country that will take my breath away. I want to experience new restaurants&#...

Traveling one day at a time. A Tale of Two Rides (at least two). June 20, 2016. This week I heard someone say that time is the most valuable commodity you have. Yep. We didn’t talk much. Just sat as the sun started to go down. Then we put on our jackets and helmets and rode home the long way. I did not spend time tonight. Maybe it was invested. Maybe it was a gift. Maybe both. 6 thoughts on “ Time. June 21, 2016 at 12:27 am. Beautiful post. Lovely writing. Special memories for you both. Husband. Dad&...

Traveling one day at a time. A Tale of Two Rides (at least two). I would. I should. I did. October 3, 2016. Yep, I’ve been away a while. Thinking, digesting, sulking, and not really finding a reason to keep posting here without an ongoing narrative of my travels. I honestly do not like the idea of being that attached to a piece of metal. I also honestly have to admitI certainly am. Was it really worth it to spend a couple of thousand dollars on a bike that was probably worth $5,000? Then it hit me. I am ...

Traveling one day at a time. A Tale of Two Rides (at least two). August 4, 2016. Details to come soon. 90 minutes from the west coast. August 2, 2016. August 2, 2016. I healed up last night. Hopefully, I can get the bike some healing today. It was a beauty. Just a little further…. August 1, 2016. I came out of the Dreamer’s Lodge Motel in John Day Oregon at first light. 12 motorcycles were in the parking lot and I was the first one out. This may not have been a great idea for two reasons. The interstate ...
