http://sweetgrasssensibilities.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
It's the new Sweetgrass Sensibilities! Occasional updates and musings, with recipes (and maybe the odd story about the cats). More on the race . . . So, by the numbers: I came in 7,109 of 26,242 overall finishers (about the top 25%); 391 of 2062 in my age group (about the top 20%); ran the second half very slightly faster than the first half (19 seconds faster, to be precise - this is a good thing); and had a 9:09 pace overall (faster than my training pace). Pictures later if I buy them!

It's the new Sweetgrass Sensibilities! Occasional updates and musings, with recipes (and maybe the odd story about the cats). SMS No-Show, and Could someone turn down the heat? Chestnut-honey madeleines was the recipe this week, and they sounded wonderful! Unfortunately, it's been just scorchingly hot, the ac has been running non-stop, and the last thing I want to do is crank up the oven. All I feel like making is ice cream. Go take a look at some of the lovelies baked by other SMSers. John said they wer...

Our Story Continues . . . Not quite as shatteringly dry as one might get in, say, December, but pretty darn good. Boy, were these good! Go check out some of the other baker's creations! Thank you for hosting this weeks SMS! Your cookies look delicious! Thanks for hosting kelly, yours look great! I too had an issue with the baking ti...

It's the new Sweetgrass Sensibilities! Occasional updates and musings, with recipes (and maybe the odd story about the cats). Butterscotch Pralines (and LOST). Could only help. I hoped. Here we are coming up to a soft ball. Having never cooked with sugar before I was surprised how the temperature stayed low for a while, shot up to about 230, then hung around there for quite some time before finally going up to 238. I'm sure there is a scientific reason for this. For picking such a nice recipe! It sounded...

Shiny Happy Mama: January 2010
http://shinyhappymama.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
How was your day? Fine What did you do? Friday, January 22, 2010. Recent shiny happiness, in no particular order. Aviva started preschool. It's one of those small, pretentious schools that takes itself very seriously and offers the children organic lunches, music class, and a Mandarin tutor. But, they also seem to have lot of fun and Aviva really likes it there. Plus, it's a five minute walk from my house. I'll take a touch of pretense over a long commute any day. Aviva is in the "why? Aviva has also rea...

Shiny Happy Mama: Spine
http://shinyhappymama.blogspot.com/2012/09/spine.html
How was your day? Fine What did you do? Saturday, September 15, 2012. It's amazing to me how instantaneously life can change. Mere seconds can alter the course of months, years, perspectives, emotions. A year ago today, I was at work, happily listening to the kids play and tackling a mountain of administrative redundancies. Around noon, the phone rang. Recognizing the number on the caller ID as Michael's, I grabbed it. "Hey babe! Despite the good news, we still had to stay until the doctors were sure tha...

Shiny Happy Mama: September 2012
http://shinyhappymama.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
How was your day? Fine What did you do? Saturday, September 29, 2012. With Apologies to Judith Viorst. Aviva's best friend, Elly, moved to Australia in June. Since then, Aviva's had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad time adjusting to daily life without her. I ran into her at Trader Joe's one evening this past February, where we chatted by the yogurts and eggs for awhile. I vaguely remember saying something like, "We should get together soon! Are you free this weekend? The morning of their flight, E...

Shiny Happy Mama: October 2009
http://shinyhappymama.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
How was your day? Fine What did you do? Thursday, October 15, 2009. It Burns When I Press Play. It's a dreary, cold late afternoon. Noah went to a friend's house and the girls, after exhausting themselves at the playground, asked to watch a movie. I said. " Pick one out. If you can't decide, we can check to see what's on demand. Aviva excitedly quipped, " I wanna watch a movie on V.D! Cut to a speechless Cori, looking bemused and bewildered). She means D.V.D. That's what I said, Lilah - V.D! Every mornin...

Shiny Happy Mama: November 2012
http://shinyhappymama.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
How was your day? Fine What did you do? Monday, November 19, 2012. Bored and perusing yoga blogs while plagued with insomnia last week, I came across this entry. And it's gotten me thinking. Stewing, actually. While I think expressing gratitude is the most lovely form of navel-gazing out there, her list seems more like a word-association exercise than a sincere roster of truly meaningful things. My parents and sister. They're pretty amazing. I'm lucky to have them in my heart, my life, and my blo...My fr...
